Charge 6 won't sync after latest app update

ANSWERED

I have been having major problems with my 5 month old Charge 6 - not logging distance, rubbish GPS tracking etc. I updated the app to rhe latest version last night, and now the app won't sync at all. It refuses to pair with my phone, and if I try to pair from the phone, rather than from the app, it won't work either. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling etc, and no joy. I am so fed up with this device, and I think this is the final straw.

I installed a Fitbit app update this morning but it hasn't resolved the issue. My phone still can't find my Charge 6 to pair with it. My wife's phone couldn't find the update so she still can't sync to her Inspire 3.

More patience required while Fitbit / Google sort it out.

After several hours of fiddling with my Charge 6 I was able to get it syncing again with the app.

You must unpair the tracker from your telephone and re-pair it.  My phone is Android 10.  It took a while to find the unpair command.

I suggest you try to unpair the fitbit from the phone.

  • Sadly, this was the first thing I tried, and it is proving impossible to re-pair. My phone bluetooth can "see" the Charge 6, but pairing is just not happening. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app again just now, and on set-up via the app, it is unable to find the fitbit, just giving the message "searching for Charge 6".

Thanks for the suggestion DracoPrime, pleased you got it sorted.
I unpaired my Android phone (v14 software), the day it stopped
syncing, it didn't solve it and may have caused more problems.
I've got 2 issues, pairing the phone to the Charge 6 and then syncing it.
When I try to pair the phone to the C6 it says "Charge 6 not found" and
gives 4 suggestions including
1. charging the C6 (done);
2. avoid pairing conflicts
Connected to the Fitbit app were my phone (not sure if was right but I've
now disconnected it, any advice appreciated) and my old Charge 2 which I've
now deleted.
The app now says "Connected to Fitbit but you don't have any connections
yet" and prompts me to connect my C6.
I then go through the Add Device routine but it fails and says "Something
went wrong. An error occurred. Please try again"
3. restart your C6 (done) and
4 .restart Bluetooth (done).
When I turned bluetooth on / off it says the Charge 6 is an available app
but says "couldn't connect" when I try to connect it.
I'm seriously thinking of dumping Fitbit which is a shame as I've only had
it since August.

Just got my Charge 6 yesterday and I'm having the same issue (watch screen saying I need to download the app - I've used the app for 3 years and have gone through all the troubleshooting steps already).  Only ordered it because my Luxe stopped sending info to the app on Tuesday the 22nd.  Fitbit needs to get their act together or they're going to P O more people than are on here.

Same here, stopped syncing 5 days ago. Did every possible restart, remove, reinstall etc but nothing worked. Then I contacted the customer service. The guy went through all the steps with me again, but nothing worked. At the end he just said my apologies, it might fix by itself in next few weeks!!! SERIOUSLY? And that was it, he said goodbye very quickly and then sent a link for feedback. I was absolutely shocked. Now not sure what to do next, as my Charge 6 is still not syncing.

Agreed. I have same issues with my Charge 4 since updated to 4.28 on 22 Oct 2024. Have been all over the community forum, had chats to support (of limited use as you are only directed to the help pages you have already tried) and nothing works. Tried reinstalling app, opened and closed bluetooth, restarted my Android 11 device. Bluetooth can see my Charge4 but won't pair "as I need an app". Everytime I uninstall & reinstall the app and try to connect it to the  Charge 4 I get the "oops try again" message. It must be an software issue as everyone is complaining. Why do fitbit updates kill a perfectly good trackers ability to sync! Is it a ploy to make you buy a new one!!  Not happy.

PS.... Doubt I will buy a Fitbit again. I have used various Fitbit devices for medical reasons, over the last decade. They monitor the widest range of health data, making it a very useful medical tool, but I have usually had to upgrade because of an update or other issue that cannot be fixed. It is a shame the faulty updates and a total lack of meaningful support ruins Fitbit's reputation. Who has hours to waste going round in circles trying to fix this with useless suggestions!  In Aus I still can't speak to a tech in person.  Thanks to the forum member who actually got someone to admit it is the update and they are working on a fix.

Poser: How you how do we install a patch if our phones can't finish installing the app with our fitbit devices, nor can we pair them with bluetooth?  We need some direct press releases re this problem on the website.  Please act Fitbit/google.

Hello @AlisonTB , @BendyJen , @Odeta , @LolaMC , @Rhosddu1

Please see the Moderator's post from today (29 Oct 2024) on this thread (<-- click link). She states that the fix is rolling out in app version 4.28.2.

The app updates usually roll out in waves. Keep checking the Play Store for the update and install it when it's available for you.

If you're still seeing the syncing issue after installing the update, please let us know.

Got the update and no glory.  My Charge 6 will still not pair with my phone.

Is this Google's way of making us move to a different fitness tracker service?

Hello @DracoPrime , @MB2133 , @adeevans

I've tagged the Moderators in other threads to let them know that the version 4.28.2 has not fixed the syncing issue and to let support know. They have acknowledged the messages and have forwarded the information to support.

Hi everyone. Just an update. Spoke to fitbit in the week, they said they
knew the newest version still didnt work. After an hour of complaining and
speaking to a manager i did say it wasnt good enough. They were taking all
the customers for granted. They escalated it ...finally. Anyway a new
dowload has come in the UK this morning approx 8ish am. Tried it and its
worked. So for everyone that was affected with the update from 21st October
try and update your screens. When you do it the code to pair should come on
the fitbit quite quickly. The screen as its doing it looks slightly
different with dot colours. Youll know what i mean when you see it. Just
check all your screens and make sure the rest if your softwares are up to
date too. Do a ecg and your 3 min wellness and it should prove its all
done. For the people who waited and didnt download the update from the 21
October like me as we have two in our household, i uninstalled the app,
then re installed it as the update screen still showed the dodgy update.
That worked on my fitbit so i didnt get the issues that my fella had. Hope
the info helps everyone. If you can spread the word that would be great as
i still am getting used to posting and cant figure out how to post
properly. Anyway hope the info helps. Good luck with the refreshed install.
Take care all

Hi everyone. Theres a new update. Just come in this morning in the UK. So for everyone who had issues from 21 October check your updates. The pairing code comes on quite quickly, and the screen looks slightly diffetent when you are pairing up, youll know what i mean when you see it. Re check your ecg and wellness 3 minute programme and check all your other apps for downloads too. For the people like me who didnt download and waited as we have two fitbits in the house un install the app and re install, so it doesnt pick up the dodgy software. So ive done both fitbits the morning as both are working ok. Hopefully everyones should be working after the latest update as i did make a complaint in the week to fitbit about their lack of respect and customef service to its vast array of customers worldwide. I did escalate it, so looks like the moaning was taken seriously. If you can please spread the word as i am still trying to figure out if im doing these posts properly. All the best everyone. Take care

Hello.  The latest update hit around midnight in the eastern part of the United States.  I installed it and my Charge 6 seems to be mostly working again.  I needd to go through and adjust the settings to my liking.

I think it a shame that Fitbit/Google didn't see fit to make general announcements concerning the problems.

Thank you for staying on top of things.
