Counting high heart rate as energy burned

Yesterday I went out and had a few drinks at a terrace and it was pretty warm outside. So my heart rate went a bit too high than it normally is and in the 3 hours that I spent there sitting, it counted almost 1000 calories burned. While sitting. It also alerted me of the high heart rate while being inactive and at the same time telling me to keep going and congratulated me for exceeding my daily goal. Seriously? I totally understand being off with the steps, like counting them while washing the dishes or just meal prepping while sitting mostly still, because of all the hand moving. But how can it alert me of the high heart rate while being INACTIVE but count that as still being active and burning calories? It is so unreliable, I am starting to regret investing my money in this watch to be honest.

Hello @PauuuMM your body is always burning calories. Your motor is always running. Fitbit uses your heart rate to determine your fuel consumption.

The faster your heart is pumping, the more calories your body will burn.

Was your heart pumping faster? While at rest, was your actual heart rate this high?

Hi there!

Yes, it was over 120bpm during the time I spent just sitting. I am aware that the body always burns calories, but almost 1000 calories burned while sitting seems exaggerated.
