I figure it probably does just want to check before buying. I know it can measure RHR but I want to make sure it has watchface options that display RHR, not just pulse.

To the best of my knowledge, the watch faces don't have the option to show Resting Heart Rate. If the watch face shows heart rate, it will be "live". The metrics shown on the watch face tend to be dynamic rather than static, like RHR.
For your current RHR, you'll need to look in the Fitbit app.
