Charge 6 distance between phone and watch

I’m new to the Fitbit community, but immediately I’ve noticed that the Fitbit tracks *drastically* higher walking distances than my phone.

I love the heart rate tracking and other features. It’s also a really nice profile and user interface.

Can anyone explain why my Fitbit would think that I’ve walked 6.83km today vs my phone 3.6km

I’ve had both on me all day, without exceptions..

My wife who also recently got a Fitbit apparently walked 8km the other day despite not leaving the house.

Is there some calibration needed?

@noxka   You are basically comparing a wrist worn tracker to a torso worn tracker.  Wrist worn trackers can count false steps from arm movements that aren't steps.  Please compare your step counts, too.  How does the step count compare to the distance?  My first Fitbit was the torso worn One.  My step counts went up by as much as 1000 steps per day when I moved to a wrist worn tracker.  Here are some other thoughts:

  • When the distance comes from steps (not GPS tracked), both platforms use a steps x stride length equation to calculate distance.  Make sure your height is correct in both profiles.
  • Be aware of activities where you use your arms, but aren't walking.

There is a setting you can change if your Fitbit is over counting steps.  If you wear your Fitbit on your non-dominant wrist, try changing the setting to Dominant (but keep wearing it on your non-dominant wrist).  Tap on the device/battery icon in the upper left of your Fitbit app, then your device image.  Scroll down to the Device preferences section, tap on it, and change Wrist preference to Dominant.  This changes the accelerometer sensitivity.  It can reduce, but not eliminate false steps.

Hello @noxka!  It’s nice to see you around!

Regarding the extra step count between your Fitbit and your phone, please consider the following:

  1. If you don't have your phone with you at all times, it won't record all your steps.
  2. If you have Mobile Track installed on your Fitbit app, it may be duplicating your steps and, consequently, your distance.

To uninstall MobileTrack, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your app
  2. Tap the icon in the top left corner (it has a small phone and a clock)
  3. Tap where it says Phone
  4. Please remove the phone from your app connections.

Additionally, please verify in your general information that your height, weight, age, etc. are correct, as this modifies your stride length and this also influences the distance covered.
