I've seen some posts on this, but none were able to help me or were a bit dated.
I went for a run this morning and saw "GPS connected" on my watch. But when I got back home and checked the exercise, I wasn't able to see a map of my route which I assumed would be available if the GPS was on.
Later, I went for a walk and started the exercise from the Fitbit app on my phone. But starting it on my phone did not track on my watch, so I had to start it on my watch separately. This time, when I finished my walk, I did have a map, but for the walk event that I started on my phone. But there was also the walk event from my watch (and again did not have a map of my route), so there were two events from a single walk and the watch did not track my route. This seems a little silly, as using GPS on my phone would drain more battery which is why I have a Fitbit in the first place.
Is there a way to start a walk/run from my watch and have the map of my route upload to the app, without having to interact with the app?

@mint0 Welcome to the forums. Thanks for reaching out about the GPS map on the Fitbit app, the explanation and what you have tried so far.
Yes, it is possible for your device to track your training session with GPS without using your smartphone. I would like to look into the fact that it showed you "GPS connected" but then no map was shown on the Fitbit app. Was there no indication during training that GPS was no longer connected? Mine usually vibrates to show the new GPS status.
May I know which smartphone do you have? This could be an issue with the information displayed on the app, even if it was actually recorded. Would you be so kind to check the Fitbit.com website and see if the map is shown there? Log yourself in and then click on this link: Fitbit activities. Click then on the desired training and check if the map is shown there. Thanks in advance.
I also recommend you take a look at the following article: How do I get my Fitbit device to connect to GPS?. Here you find the best practices for GPS tracking and some troubleshooting tips. Thanks in advance.

Hi @RodrigoMFitbit, after some experimentation I found that sometimes I do have a map that displays after a run. It seems that during my main route, I enter an area with bad signal and the GPS disconnects, causing the map to not display. But when I tried another route I did have a map. Thank you!
