Fitbit Charge 6 won’t set up with Fitbit account (forcing Google)

ANSWERED

Has anyone here succeeded in adding and setting up their Charge 6 with their Fitbit account? The Fitbit app won’t let me set up unless I switch to a Google account.
The Charge 6 Account Requirements page says: “Existing users have the option to use either a Google Account or their existing Fitbit account until at least 2025“.  This was important for me in choosing whether to stick with the brand and purchase the Charge 6 with my replacement discount.
Fitbit customer service said I should be able to set up the Charge 6  with my  Fitbit account, but escalated the matter after their attempts to help didn’t work. Has anyone here had any better luck?

Hello @kehatl and welcome to the Community.  A Google account is “required to activate new Fitbit devices released after the launch of Google Accounts for Fitbit.”  Reference
I hope this helps.

@Zekiette Thanks for reaching out about using your Fitbit account only to set up your Fitbit Charge 6 and the explanation.

I have a Fitbit account and I have not been forced to migrate. I am glad to read you are already in touch with customer support. They will provide you with a suitable resolution. I will continue to monitor the situation and see if other users are impacted as well. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Hi RodrigoM and thanks for answering.  Just to be sure I understand correctly…Did you set up a new Charge 6 using your Fitbit account? Also, would you have set up using  the redesigned or old version of the Fitbit app

Best Answer

I was FORCED to migrate my account to Google as it would not allow me to activate my Charge 6 unless I did so. As soon as I agreed to migrate my date everything worked as intended. The only issue is that I lost data from my friends who have NOT migrated. I only see stats for the one friend that did the migration, but all of MY data from the past is available to me.

Have there been any updates on this? I am also trying to set up a Charge 6.  There is an option, when the setup suggests you move your account to Google, that says Maybe Later (below Move Account) but tapping it takes you right back to the page where you select the device you want to pair.  Very frustrating.

I have the same issue.  I haven't been able to set up my Charge 6 because it says to move to Google OR maybe later, but selecting maybe later takes me back to the add device.  It will not proceed.  Frustrating.  It makes me wonder if they test their products and app.

It is an issue, but not a SERIOUS issue. Once I "upgraded" to Google everything worked fine. The only difference is that I cannot "see" the Stats of my friends who have not yet done the changeover. If you are super-competitive I can understand the frustration, but since the CHALLENGES are no longer a part of the app,  it is a minor inconvenience.

As an aside, STEP COUNT as a comparative measure never made sense to me - my wife is 5'2" and I am 6'2" so our stride length is dramatically different and I can never match her step count when we walk together. For me to come in 1st among my group of shorter friends has always been a challenge.

Hi,

I am having the same issue in that it won’t let me sign in with my Fitbit account and when i tried to use my Google, it said my login was tied to another account! Well i have a fitbit 4 and can’t update with the new 6. I have tried every which way around at one point i had ‘switch to fitbit 6’ but it kept being covered up with pop up that said login in with Google account. Very frustrating!

Quite frankly, this is crap.  Why does the app allow us to say no thanks, then not allow you to continue?  I personally do NOT want to migrate, so I will stay with my Charge 4 until it dies, then I will migrate begrudgingly.  Google knows too much about me already, they don't need to know more until I can't avoid it.  Shame on you, you are part of the "deep" state that everyone seems to be talking about.  Next thing you know we will all be required to sign on to X, formerly known as Twitter.  You have enough advertising dollars already - you're just trying to compete with Bezo the Bozo.

To quote the T&C's

Existing users have the option to use either a Google Account or their existing Fitbit account until at least 2025 at which point they will be required to use a Google Account for login. Click here for more information.

I still can't setup a charge 6 on an existing Fitbit account even though Google says it is possible until 2025

I bought the new Fitbit Charge 6 due to the fact that my Fitbit Charge 5 wasn't holding it's charge for more than 4 days. I've been trying to set up my new Fitbit 6 and have tried to move my existing Fitbit account to Google. It doesn't give me a chance to get to step 2. I called Fitbit support last week, and was on the phone with a agent for over 1 hour. He was in Columbia and was trying to send me emails and they never came through.
I'm tired of it showing that you can select to move forward without moving to Google, but when I do it starts all over again at the very beginning again. Since I'm seeing that your post is all from months ago, did you ever find a solution? If so could ypu please let me know what the secret is>
Thanks

A year later I am having the same issues.  I had a Charge 2 and am trying to upgrade to 6.  Will not let me log into my Google account because the Charge 2 is there but I do not see a way to remove the 2.  It says "Set up 6" but then stops the set up process with no options.  The Charge 6 says Download the Fitbit Mobile App and that's it, a new brick.  Going back to Amazon for full refund.
