Hi @C-C-B.  This is an issue that showed up when Google accounts started being introduced.  Fitbit is in the process of upgrading all users from Fitbit accounts to Google accounts.  You had to migrate in order to set up your Charge 6.  Fitbit hasn't announced a final date, but all users with Fitbit accounts are going to be required to migrate to Google accounts some time this year.  You will see your friends once they migrate.

You can't go back to a Fitbit account.

I will never ever be forced to sign in with a Google account. I will take a hammer, crush my watch and never use or buy Fitbit again.

Hi @CJC58   I'm sure Fitbit will lose many users when we are forced to migrate to Google accounts.  I'm also hoping you are writing metaphorically.  Please dispose of your Fitbit as e-waste when the time comes.

Just to clarify one thing, Product Experts aren't Fitbit/Google employees.  I prefer smartwatches over trackers.  My decision point will be when my Sense 2 battery dies.

I'm on my 3rd fitbit watch. They never last more than 18 months. I will move on to something different,  more rugged. There are even cheaper watches available on line that offer better durability with the same features.  Fitbit really isn't meant to be worn 24 hrs a day.
