Heart rate way high

Getting readings above 170 while on cardio equipment especially in the beginning when I’m barely breaking a sweat. It takes approx 15 min to drop to the true rating which approximates the machine reading. My charge 5 was always accurate. What happened here?

Charge 6 tends to see arm movements as HR. What kind of cardio equipment we are talking about? I see that problem constantly when I run. My yesterday run (orange - Charge 6, blue - chest strap):

It gave me an average HR of 181bpm while the real average is 158bpm. It's because it picked up my cadence of 200 steps per minute as HR. Sometimes it "detaches" from steps and starts showing it correctly (you can see that the last 3 reps and cooldown are nearly perfect). If you move your arms (elliptical, treadmill?) with such cadence it may be doing the same thing.

Interesting. Thanks for explaining. That’s what may be happening. The cardio work generally consists of elliptical or fast walking. As mentioned the heart rate reading eventually becomes accurate, but to your point will show a much higher avg heart rate when finished. Kind of a bummer to not have charge 6 measure heart rate in an accurate way. Should have kept my Charge 5.
