How do I turn off Autodetect ?? Have set to "Ignore" but still keeps detecting

ANSWERED

Apologies if this has been covered - I did search but couldn't find an answer for the Charge 6 other than what I have already tried............

I have set autodetect to "ignore" for all activities, but my Charge 6 keeps on autodetecting "walking". It is REALLY starting to irritate me, I have searched for answers on Google and this forum, and all I can find is how to "set to ignore in the Exercise tile". I have done that (weeks ago) and still after 15 mins my Charge 6 buzzes and tells me that I am walking !

How do I stop this permanently - its not a feature I need, value or want.

Hi @PeterDA - try this: on the Charge 6, swipe over to Exercises, swipe down to Walk, then tap it, Swipe down through the settings until you see "Walk Detect" and turn that off.

If it was already off, then I'm not sure what I'd suggest.

Agree with @mikey_pdx .  Walk Detect, Run Detect, etc seem to be set on by default without people even knowing about it, and it causes much grief. Either it should be off by default, or somehow people should be made aware of it.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

That's it, sorted - thanks so much mikey_pdx !!!!

Why do the instructions point to the settings in the App for this feature, but fail to mention you also have to change the settings on the Charge 6 itself ?!! Why the heck do you have to do it in two paces anyway ? Thank goodness I asked on here before I resorted to tech-rage and stamped on the thing. Being continuously told "you are walking" may be useful for some folk, but having gone round in circles trying to turn it off, it was just making me mad.

Thanks again !

@PeterDA   I hope this explanation will help.  You need to do this in two places because they are two different features.  Walk, Run, and Bike Detect turn on the Exercise app.  It can use GPS if you have it turned on.  The auto-recognized exercises that you set to ignore are a feature called SmartTrack.  They can't use GPS and don't give you a distance in the details.  You find a lot of information about SmartTrack, because Fitbit introduced it in 2015 and it is on many models.  Walk Detect is new and is only available on the Charge 6, Versa 4, and Sense 2.

Fitbit first put Run Detect on the Versa because many runners asked for it.  It was on by default to help users be aware of it.  I found it by accident on my Versa.

After tolerating with auto-detect on my Versa 4 for months with each search leading to turning off auto-detect on the app, I finally asked Google Gemini how to turn off auto-detect exercises on the Versa 4. It told me to check the app, but also, opening the exercise app on the Versa 4 to change the settings.
