Thank you for taking the time to share the inquiry regarding your Charge 6.
I'd suggest you wearing your Fitbit on your non dominant hand, but in the settings on the app, set it to dominant. Setting it to dominant will cause the program to be a little less sensitive to hand movements. You can find more useful information about the accuracy of Fitbit devices and how to adjust your stride length and dominant hand settings here.
If you are about to do something that you know involves a lot of hand movements (in your case driving a forklift) it may be helpful temporarily to slip the Fitbit in your pocket.
In addition please confirm if you are using Mobile track. It is a service that allows you to count steps using your phone even if you forget to wear your Fitbit. You can "unpair" Mobile Track from your account. On your Fitbit app go to the upper left corner, on the phone and device icon. Click on your phone icon and on the 3 dots and choose "unpair".
