Indoor (non-GPS) workouts and Strava

Hi all,

Plenty of (closed) topics about this but doesn't seem there is a solution yet.  Any reason in this day and age why indoor workouts cannot upload to Strava, I'm sure it used to work0.  Apparently it's due to no GPS information in the file.  Is it not possible to 'spoof' something in order to get the file to upload?  A manual TCX output doesn't work either.  Do the various GPS modes affect this (Dynamic, Phone, Watch)?  Most drain the battery on one or both devices.

Thanks,

Sorry @G-rig but Fitbit has never sent non gps exercises to Strava. Sorry but as non Fitbit developers, no one in tgis community could tell you why.

You are correct, without recorded GPX there will not be a TCX file.

No worries, there was a TCX file but basically empty.  It's a bit idiotic but don't see it changing anytime soon.  Surely they could develop indoor modes or give a fake location to enable it.

I can only see things getting worse now that Google has taken over, the PC desktop will be dead soon.  It seems like the resting HR graph/history data is very basic and dulled down vs the fitbit information (I already switched to Google).

Anyway, I've got the GPS set on phone and my bike computer was flat so it still works well enough outside starting the activity from the fitbit and auto uploads to Strava.

@G-rig Strava doesn't need location data. TCX file will get through without GPS waypoints. It's just Fitbit's choice not to send non-GPS activities over to Strava. In fact, there is a way to obtain "incomplete" TCX file (with only HR data) rather than empty TCX so data is there. Fitbit decided not to use it 🤷 Activities from ie. Garmin are being sent with no problem without GPS data inside. Moreover, Fitbit doesn't send all GPS activities. For example, Outdoor Workout or Interval Workout recorded with GPS data won't be send to Strava. It's how Fitbit designed the Strava integration. Unlikely, it's going to be improved.
