Is a Google account required for Charge 6?

ANSWERED

Does this mean the device won't function if we don't establish a Google account?

NEVERMIND!  I found the answer at https://www.fitbit.com/global/us/technology/compatible-devices

"A Google Account is required for all new users.

A Google Account is required to activate new Fitbit devices released after the launch of Google Accounts for Fitbit.

Existing users have the option to use either a Google Account or their existing Fitbit account until at least 2025 at which point they will be required to use a Google Account for login."

Additionally, https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2478.htm says:

"Support of Fitbit accounts will continue until at least 2025. After support of Fitbit accounts ends, a Google Account will be required to use Fitbit."

Between the disappointing "improved" app and being forced to have an account with Google, it's time to look for a new fitness tracker.

A Google account will be required for all new users, and will eventually be required for all users.

The main reason I don't mind is I use a combination of Fitbit and Google fit to get all the readings I want. For example, I get a better understanding of my resting heart rate and also my sleeping heart rate on Google Fit.

If I would have known that I would have bought something else. I was happy with my Charge 5 until it died. Ran and bought a Charge 6 but didn't realize that it will force you to connect through Google. What a disaster. Total waste of money since I can't take it back once it was opened.

Even if you didn't switch, Google owns Fitbit. Your Fitbit account is owned by Google.

As for the security and privacy of that data, it hasn't changed. Make of that what you will.

I also just bought a Charge 6 when my Charge 4 died.  I had to move to a Google Login but everything else is the same as before.  I find  that the "Continue with Google"  message that requires me to login every day is really irritating especially as I am using Chrome on Windows.  My Android devices have stayed logged in since I switched two weeks ago.  I'm hoping I missed something and can get the Windows machine to stay logged in.
