Is there any way to change Tap to Pay to not ask for a PIN for every payment?

I used to have a Charge 4 - well, I still do - and it required a PIN to be entered the first time you unlocked it after you removed it from you wrist and put it back on - which made sense - it could have been stolen, so requiring you to verify you were the owner each time you put it on your wrist made sense.  It would then stay unlocked until you next removed it from your wrist.

The Charge 6 (which I got yesterday) required me to key in the PIN every time I made a purchase - three purchases in two hours, required me to key in the PIN on the watch each time.

There seems to be no way to change it to require the PIN to unlock only once after you put it on your wrist like you used to be able to do with the Charge 4.

Has anyone worked out how to do this?

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can.

Thanks.

The Charge 6 is a real step backwards:

  • No regional support (date format wrong on charging screen)
  • Have to unlock every time you pay.
  • No ability to use Spotify
  • No ability to customise exercise shortcuts.
  • No ability to actually add credit cards that are listed as supported on the official supported banks list.

I shouldn't be surprised, but I am dissapointed.

I had to put 0000, that way at least it's easy to open the card when you're in a rush

So did I, @Bebopkorsakoff.  At least when we meet, we can swap fitbits and use each other's cards to pay for drinks.

Mine behaves the same as my charge 4, it only asks for a PIN once a day unless I take it off. Perhaps you're wearing it too loosely and it thinks you're taking it off?

Mine seems to ask for the PIN only each time after you put it on, or after you've made a purchase.

That's the issue - if you're at a pub, having a few rounds, you have to unlock it before each round, even though it has stayed on your wrist.

If you're out and about, on public transport, you have to unlock it every time you touch on and off.

It couldn't get much tighter - it's pretty tight, and on days when I'm not making purchases (like today), if I go to Wallet, it is unlocked from hours ago.

Least you got it to work. I can't get Google wallet to work whatsoever, even though my bank accepts both wallet and Fitbit.

I just tried this exact scenario and it only prompted me for a pin for the first use. After that no pin was required.

Thanks.

I will have a chance to try again today.

I will

  • Sync my Fitbit
  • Remove the card from the Wallet App
  • Sync my Fitbit
  • Clear User Data
  • Remove the Fitbit from my Phone (I will replace it with the Charge 4)
  • Clear Storage on the phone app
  • Uninstall the Fitbit app
  • Install the Fitbit app
  • Pair the Charge 6
  • Set up a PIN
  • Add the card
  • Unlock
  • Try two payments

That sequence should ensure that it is a clean setup.

If it still doesn't work, I will have a good baseline for when I raise a (probably pointless) support case.
