Missing heart rate info during swim activity

I have a new charge 6 and am really struggling with it! 
my old 5 always registered my swims correctly but the 6 is rubbish. If I don’t tell it I’m swimming it registers that I’ve been rowing. My heart rate etc is all registered correctly. If I tell it I’m swimming, it completely misses registering my heart rate for the entire hour I swim!! 
I’m thinking of trying to get my money back as this is useless, anyone gave any advice??

Let me help you with the stats registered with your Charge 6 during your swim activity.

First, i need to point out that heart-rate tracking is disabled during your swim workout. Inconsistencies in your swim data may be caused by certain reasons. If your swim data seem wrong i recommend that you read our help article How do I track swims with my Fitbit device? > Why does my Fitbit swim data seem wrong?

If you are not satisfied with your product, you return your device following our terms of sale
