I'm on a long road trip and I just noticed my charge 6 is counting thousands of steps. These are smooth highways and in a newer car. How do I get it to stop counting so many steps! It logged at least 5000 steps during this 2 hour car trip so far.

Welcome to the community forums @Reggied111.
Thank you for providing the details about this inconvenience with your Charge 6.
Please not wrist trackers count steps depending on the movement of your arms. Fitbit has worked hard to make sure that our devices do not pick up false steps or activity recordings while driving. Unless you're driving in a car with a very stiff transmission or on bumpy roads, your device should not give you false readings. Also, if you place it in a surface with something vibrating or if you make hard hand movements. You can learn more about how your Fitbit tracks steps by checking the article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?
However, there are ways you can prevent this from happening while you drive:
1. You can plug your tracker into the charging cable while you are driving -- the Fitbit will not count steps while it is charging.
2. You can log the driving manually by following the steps in this article.
With the information provided above, please bear in mind that it's not possible to delete steps and floors, but you can achieve the same result by negating them.

Like I said, it was a smooth road and new car. I was watching the steps go up on my wrist and on my phone. I wasn't moving my arms at all. The article you sent me to doesn't have very good instructions on how to log driving. Can you give me step by step instructions?

Log driving is easy as logging any exercise after the event.
Warning: Some users have reported that driving doesn't remover steps anymore. Sorry @ManuFitbit but when i add driving, my steps are not removed

Well, wth. They need to fix this! I cannot leave my watch at home while I'm driving a school bus. I need access to the correct time!
