Navy Federal card not working with Google Wallet

ANSWERED

A big reason I got the charge 6 was because of the Google wallet support. However, even though I have Navy federal cards in my Google wallet on my phone, it STILL does not work on the Fitbit Google wallet. How is this still not supported? I'm regretting my purchase already.

Ok SO this may be too late of a response for you, but maybe someone who comes across this thread while googling, like I did, will find it helpful!

I was having this exact same problem with my new Versa 4. The whole reason I upgraded from the Versa 2 was so that I could use my navy federal car in my Google wallet on my Fitbit watch. I already had my cards in my Google wallet and was using them to pay via Google pay and nfc on my phone. The issue was that every time I tried to go into the Fitbit app, to my versa4, to the Google wallet and add the cards over to my Fitbit... It kept saying there was an error.

I called Fitbit, they had no help but to try restarting the watch. So then I called my bank: Navy Federal. Lady didn't know how to help so brought in her supervisor. Supervisor didn't know how to help, so she brought in HER supervisor. Turns out, whenever a card is added to a new device through Google wallet, Google charges your card $0.00 as a check to make sure it is working... And Navy Federals fraud system was bouncing it back as fraud from Fitbit every time. So, the supervisor's supervisor got fraud on the phone, they worked whatever technical magic they have on their end to pre-approve the source of those charges, and had me try again. It worked first try.

So, unlike what other people suggest down below... If you KNOW that your card works with NFC payments already, call Navy Fed and see if it is possible that the "charges" are popping as fraud and therefore declining, which of course will prevent them from adding to your Fitbit wallet.

Tl;Dr : Navy Fed might need to pre-authorized the verification transaction that Google sends them, that is needed to complete your Fitbit Google wallet.

There could be at least one of two issues that I know of that could be going on, neither of which has anything to do with Fitbit:

1.) The card may not be able to support NFC payments.

2.) Even if they do support NFC payments, there could be a setting somewhere in your account that's not activated in order to complete NFC payments.  In my case, this was the culprit.

Also, as you noted, not all cards are supported by Fitbit, even though they may be supported in Google Wallet.

It might be worth contacting the credit card company to see if they even support NFC payments.  They would also be in a position to assist you in finding any settings in your account that's needed for NFC payments.

Hello @JulioE32  I think you should contact NFCU for more help.  NFCU is on the Google Wallet Bank list.

@LZeeW @DramaQueenDiva Thanks for your input and help with this situation. There are many factors involved.

@JulioE32 Welcome to the forums. Thanks for reaching out about your setting up your Navy Federal card . As @LZeeW mentioned, the Navy Federal Credit Union is on the list; both Mastercard and Visa work. I suggest you take a look at the following article: Tap to pay with your Fitbit device. Hello @SarahRanee and welcome to the Community.  @JulioE32 hasn't visited the site in a while, so we may never know if he got it sorted out or not.  But your details will help others, so I am marking your post as a Best Answer.

I sent them a direct message, so maybe they will get that via email. I'm just glad I was able to figure it out, and hopefully it will help someone else out as well.

Just got off an hour+ long phone call with some friendly NFCU reps who were unable to fix based on the the approving the tokens (fraud) and verifying the account (wallet team).  We were to the point of connecting in a Fitbit rep (who was completely useless, saying that NFCU was not on the list of participating banks) and while on hold I came across a similar, but outdated, reddit post which worked for me (thank goodness).  Here's the current steps as of today.

  1. Remove the payment method from Google Wallet (make sure you're in Google Wallet and nmot the Fitbit app)
  2. Sign into pay.google.com and verify the credit card was removed.  If not, remove it there as well.
  3. Ensure appropriate permission (location and phone) on the google wallet app.  If unsure, uninstall and reinstall (I did not have to this).
  4. In the Google Wallet app, readd your credit card as a payment method.
  5. In the Fitbit app, connect the credit card as attempted previously.

Again, this worked for me, and it's probably worth trying before contacting any customer service department re: tokens or verification.

I really wish that I remembered what thread it was that I had read to input the NFCU Card of mine. If i had the faintest of memories on how I did it, I want to say it involved resetting the Fitbit but not sure what was done after that.

What worked for me was contacting Navy Federal, getting directed to their fraud team, and asking for a supervisor. I tried adding and the workers under the sup saw it being denied/marked as fraud, so the supervisor assisted and now it allows me to add the card with no problem through the Versa 4 google wallet app. I assume there is a smaller charge once you add /attempt to add a card, but on the NCFU end it gets automatically marked as fraud hence the option pops up to call the bank/card issuer for help.

That's exactly the problem and the proper solution as I had to do the same: call, speak to fraud, get a supervisor,r and boom, I could add it.
