I just bought a Charge 6. I've fully charged it, then went through the setup process. It paired with my Google Pixel 8a phone and then the FitBit App said it must be updated before I can do anything. The update then fails with this
I restarted my phone and tried again but got the same thing.
I've restarted the Charge 6, removed the device from Bluetooth settings, and paired it again, but it says I must update it, and then I get that message again. Done this three times now. Not impressed at all. Wasted hours. Is it faulty?

Hello @hugmentation
If you were trying to set up your Charge 6 yesterday (12 Jun 2025), there was an outage that affected several Google products & services, including Fitbit. The outage was resolved by the afternoon.
Please let us know if you tried again to set up your Charge 6 today and if you were successful.

I spent an hour on the phone with support yesterday and they couldn't resolve it but said there's a bug on the server side and suggested I try again today.
I just tried it twice and get this message.
the device pairs successfully but won't update. Now what?
---
I disconnected the device from my phone and tried updating the firmware using my wife's Google Pixel 8a and it worked.
I then disconnected it from her phone and paired it back to mine and it's working now 🤔

Not intending to be Captain Obvious. There is a difference between your Google Pixel 8a and your wife's Pixel 8a. This is sometimes referred to as "Known good, known bad." This does not indicate your Pixel 8a is defective, but it is indicating a difference between yours and your wife's. The compare/contrast of the firmware/software/settings between your phones exercise can be painful, however if this update issue occurs next time you update, this is an option to sort it out. Also nothing wrong with taking the easy workaround and using your wife's phone to update!
