I just received a new Charge 6 two days ago and I'm very frustrated with the inaccurate step count.
Yesterday I wore it all day with the fitness tracker it is replacing, after 4 hours, old device was at 1286, Charge 6 was at 5680 steps.
Today I'm wearing both Charge 6 and an old Charge 2. After 4 hours, Charge 2 is at 1332, Charge 6 is at 6670.
I can't find any options to calibrate this thing and have no idea why its so sensitive (it has added 46 steps while sitting at my desk typing this).
Support chat told me to set the stride length, which is not a solution. Should I just return this? I have not been checking the other metrics, I don't think I can trust this device at all.

Star55, and anyone else who seems to be having an excessive number of steps on their fitbit - Did you happen to add your phone as a device in the fitbit app? I think that doing that might cause double-counting steps anytime you are carrying your phone. I think that option is just there so you can use a phone INSTEAD of a fitbit device for step counting.

I have just bought a charge 6 and am having the exact same issue. I bought the 6 as the 5 was doing the same.. adding steps.. I thought that it was because it was old. Clearly the 6 is no better and it is new !!
Please share final solution 🙏

Hello @HBev
By any chance, do you have your phone as a connected device in your Fitbit app? You can check by clicking the device icon in the upper left of the Today page. If you see Phone listed under Devices along with your Charge 6, then this could be the reason why you're seeing additional steps.
To remove your phone as a connected device, tap on the Phone tile and follow the prompts to remove it. Removing your phone as a connected device won't affect syncing between your Charge 6 and the Fitbit app.

Also try to be cognitive of these steps on the app that might be their prior to you actually syncing it to your watch. I was having that issue as well would be charging my Fitbit and would have zero steps on the charger but when I open the app, the app would already have 2000 or 3000 steps.. but definitely the solution above. Prior to this, though you could have your phone connected and it wouldn’t be a problem with steps but for some reason now it’s an issue. I had to return my Fitbit charge six twice. and to be honest, it’s still not perfect. I bought an Apple Watch.. and I always prefer Fitbit

Yeah I agree this might be the problem but the issue I have with that is that all of the previous charged devices that I had and I’ve had a charged device since charge two and that never was an issue. I never wanted to, but I just bought an Apple Watch And said forget it. I was tired of it. I had to send the watch back twice because they were showing steps on the app for my watch said zero steps on it while it was on the charger and they couldn’t resolve it
