Steps change up and down on Charge 6

Day before yesterday my steps changed from 9153 to 8872 then back to 9265 within an hour when I wasn’t walking much. I don’t understand how they could go down. I wasn’t walking backwards.

Thank you providing the information regarding the situation with your Charge 6. 

I'm not sure if you are still experiencing this behavior with the device. If so, please perform a restart as indicated: Swipe down from the clock screen to find the Settings app: Tap the  Settings app > Restart device > Restart.

In addition, please confirm if you are using Mobile track. It is a service that allows you to count steps using your phone even if you forget to wear your Fitbit. You can "unpair" Mobile Track from your account.  On your Fitbit app go to the upper left corner, on the phone and device icon. Click on your phone icon and on the 3 dots and choose "unpair".
