Unable to manually log activities in the Fitbit app

ANSWERED

As of this week, any manual Pilates activity I add to the app shows up as “Kickboxing”. I have a Charge 6 and my app is on version 4.44. What happened?

Hi @Lisamto   Do you use an Android or iPhone?  The two versions often behave VERY different from each other.  I use an iPhone and have V 4.44.  When I manually add Pilates, I get three options: Pilates, Pilates (intermediate), Pilates (advanced).  Pilates get logged as pilates. Intermediate Pilates gets logged as Kickboxing.  Advanced Pilates gets logged as Bootcamp.  Android users might not even have these options.

The best way to give feedback to Fitbit about this is to tap on your profile picture, then Send feedback.

The best way to make sure your activity is logged correctly is to use the Exercise app on your Charge 6 with the Pilates shortcut.

Like I wrote, I don't know if Android users see the same options.  These different options go WAY back to the time when Fitbits didn't have heart rate monitors.  The different options exist to estimate calorie burn differences due to workout intensity.  You Charge 6 uses heart rate based algorithms to estimate calorie burn. Your best estimate comes from using the Exercise app on the Charge 6.

@Lisamto That's a new one!  In May, all my WORKOUT activity shows up in the app as ACTIVITY.  And I'm not alone with this, seems to be a system-wide change, there are other posts on here about it.  Maybe the moves you went through in the Pilates exercise has been interpreted by Fitbit as Kickboxing moves....

Hello @Lisamto

If I understand your post correctly, you manually entered a Pilates workout in the Fitbit app and the app changed it from Pilates to Kickboxing when it saved. Is that correct?

I just tried manually entering a workout in the Fitbit app and chose Pilates as the activity. It correctly saved the workout for me.

Not sure if it's related to the app version. I'm still on ver 4.43.1.

Hi@LZeeW

I'm Android user. When I manually add an activity and start typing "Pilates" , 3 options appear: Pilates, Kickboxing, and Boot Camp.

I suspect the OP is an iOS user and chose Pilates (intermediate), which then showed up as Kickboxing in the app.

You’re correct! I was surprised to see the theee options (Pilates, intermediate, and advanced) show up. I’ll provide feedback thru the app as you suggest.

If I’m wearing my Fitbit during the exercise, it will record my heart rate and calorie burn. Great. And if I manually enter after a workout without wearing the device, the resulting entry would default to the estimated calorie burn based on their algorithm for “Pilates”. If I wear the Fitbit AND manually enter a workout, does it take into account the actual record form the Fitbit device or just the algorithm for calories? Thanks for clarifying!

Funny you say that… when I am riding a motorcycle, the Fitbit thinks I’m cycling (or sometimes swimming!). I’d be in much better shape if I could cycle as fast as a motorcycle!

Correct. See reply from LZeeW - they got it correct with the theee different Pilates options.

@Lisamto   It used to be very clear that manually adding a workout changed the record to the manually added estimate.  Fitbit exercise details used to show a calorie burn graph.  The calorie burn changed to the same number of calories per minute, instead of a graph with ups and downs.  I can’t say for sure what happens now.
