Unable to use Google wallet on Fitbit Charge 6 in the Netherlands with ABN Amro bank debit card

ANSWERED

I use Google wallet on my phone to pay for almost everything using my ABN Amro bank debit card. But when I try to open google wallet in fitbit app to configure it for my charge 6 it asks me to add a new debit/credit card and doesn't show any stored payment method. Why? How do I solve this problem? Is anyone facing this issue?

I can't even add my ABN Amro debit card in the fitbit app, I get an error.

It should work if you look for the card number of your bank card and enter it. I think you can find this information in your ABN App (I can find it for my card in the Rabobank app).

Another option is to use the NFC when adding the card. The card details are then automatically copied to the Wallet.

Hopefully this helps.

Google Wallet on Fitbit and Google Wallet on the phone support cards differently and some won't be supported by Google Wallet on the Fitbit. This has been known since the switch to Google Wallet on Sense 2/Versa 4. My HSBC UK card also works on the mobile phone but not on Fitbit. There is nothing you can do if the card isn't supported. See the list:
https://www.fitbit.com/global/us/technology/google-apps/banks

I see that ABN Amro is supported in the Netherlands only as Mastercard. That suggests (I may be wrong) that only a credit card is supported, not a debit card. However, if you use Mastercard then the issue must be something different which I can't help with.

Thanks for your suggestion. Although typing numbers and adding wasn't working for me so I tried reading it through NFC. At first it couldn't read. But after trying for a while it read the card and contacted card issuer and finally set it up for payment. It's strange that the list only mentions master card for ABN Amro Netherlands when it also actually works for Maestro. Maestro is the only card which works everywhere in the Netherlands without any exception so it wouldn't make sense for any bank in the Netherlands not supporting it on Google pay. Master card, Visa and Amex work only in few big retail establishments and almost never in any supermarket or small shops, although all of them have latest tap to pay card payment machines. Anyway, I'm glad that I can finally use it. Thanks for the advice again.

What does NFC stand for here please? I just bought a Charge 6 hoping to use contactless payments with the HSBC Visa debit I have stored in Google Wallet but it doesn’t seem to work - setup fails just after the ‘contacting your bank’ stage. I’ve tried resetting everything several times but no luck. Is Google Wallet on Fitbit Charge not compatible with HSBC in the UK? I thought I’d read somewhere pre-release that it would be…

@SarChev I also have HSBC UK Visa debit card. Supported on my mobile phone but not on Fitbit. The list of supported cards is different for Fitbit. You won't get HSBC card working with Google Wallet on your tracker 🤷

That’s such a shame. I was under the impression it would be supported - it’s why I held off buying a Charge 5 and waited for the Charge 6! Thanks for clarifying though. Hopefully they might support it in future…

Hmm. That's not what my Charge 6 manua says. And The Cooperative Bank plc (Visa) is shown in the list of UK supported banks. Although I originally set up my card with the Fitbit app, when it failed I went an set it up in Chrome using the Wallet tab. BUT the manual says to set it up using the Fitbit app ... So I'll try again. Unfortunately I can't delete my card in the FitBit app so it's back to Google Chrome to delete it, and then to the FitBit app to set it up. Hey Ho.

This is so frustrating. I can add both my bank and debit card to Google Wallet and Pay. So that's not the issue, but Fitbits end isn't accepting it even though Google already has that information it just won't be accepted by the Charge 6 or Fitbit. This is a huge disclaimer as this was advertised to work with Google Wallet when it doesn't. Someone needs to look into this, because this is very misleading in the advertisement.

I have the same problem with SEB bank cards in Scandinavia. They worked on Charge 5, but they are not supported by Charge 6 because of Google Wallet, I suppose.

I'm having the same problem with my wifes Charge 6.
Google pay works fine with her phone, but not with the charge.
It works fine with my Pixel watch 2.

We phoned the bank (Banca March, Spain) but they said its not their problem.

Hi... any update on this? I have exact same problem. I have a bank supported both in Google Wallet and Google Wallet on Fitbit, however I can only add cards to the phone and not to the Charge 6, stating always a "This card can't be setup for tap to pay" even the bank is supported for Fitbit.

I have the same problem with my HSBC visa debit card. It's in my Google wallet and Fitbit charge 6 can see it but cannot add it to the tracker. If I knew about this issue, I wouldn't buy the tracker at all.

I asked the support about that and all they said is that they know about the issue and are working on the solution. And then they closed my ticket.

This is the last time I bought Fitbit! I'm very annoyed.

I have the same issue with my HSBC visa debit card - but when I checked the list of compatible banks it says that HSBC is supported. I can see my cards in the fitbit google wallet setup, but when it comes to contacting the bank it comes up with an error saying "Something went wrong. Please try again later" except that later never works. I'm using an iphone so wondered if that was part of the issue.

Strange....
I hope it will get sorted one day.

I'm using Android and have the same problem. It's not the phone, it's the tracker. Fitbit did a false advertisement, it's as simple as that. They say the cards in Google wallet would work with the tracker and they simply don't. They lied to us.

Has Fitbit got a fix for this?  Got my  Charge 6 yesterday and haven't managed to get it to accept my HSBC debit even though it's in my Google wallet!!

Hi.. not yet, we're still waiting for a solution. I'm on latest version of all possible (apps, Fitbit, Android, Wallet, security fixes, etc.) and still not working. A huge shame.

I have same issue a major support bank (visa). Every thing works great in Google wallet on Android but no matter what I do her this.  Tried storage cache, log out, restarts, add new and nothing works.  Fitbit please fix or I see a pixel watch coming soon.
