Will the Charge 6 track floors?

ANSWERED

Can someone confirm whether or not the Charge 6 will contain an altimeter?  i.e. Will the Charge 6 track Floors?

I've been reading specs but see no mention of it.  That, along with the responses in this forum around the launch of Charge 5 would indicate to me that the answer is "No".

That said, this would be such a (repeated) disappointment that I figured I'd give the brand and product representatives the courtesy of a chance to respond (preferably with some rationale/explanation) before determining my opinion.

Anyone else out there feeling the same?

Hello. I had Charge 3 and now received Charge 6 as a gift. I am very dissapointed with the fact that it does not has an altimeter to show elevation and count floors.

A Charge 3 or 4, or a Versa 4.

Beware though that the connector piece of the Charge 4 is made out of plastic that can break.

When my new Charge 6 was registering zero every day for Floors, I checked this forum and discovered that Charge 5 & 6 were actually down-grades from Charge 4. No altimeter data! The Clock face doesn’t offer the same options as Charge 4 either! Maybe the strap redesign will hold up better?

Why can’t altitude change be calculated from GPS data or from phone data?

I never found my floor count wrong, I could tell byt the number of cups of tea I had in the day. My kitchen is on the ground floor and my office on the second I go up two flights per cup of tea. So now my charge 2 is dying do I buy a new 4 on EBAY or a 5 or 6. Is their any benefit to the O2 sensor I will be getting ?

I agree on the clock face options .. very few of them show step count which is what most people want.

I'm flabbergasted. Never would have purchased had I realized. Buyer beware I guess.

No altimeter, no floor tracking is highly disappointing in the Charge 6. I didn’t realize that when I purchased it. That’s on me.

That being said, when my Charge 6 is ready to be replaced, I will definitely look at another brand.

Off the topic, the synchronizing with my mobile device is extremely annoying. In fact, it downright sucks!

If the charge doesn’t have an altimeter why is there a “floors” listing ?

To make you unaware for the 7 day cooling off period we have in some countries. Fit bit police will probably delete this post as it’s negative.

Hello @Jamesr626

The Fitbit app has to be able to accommodate all the features of all the current Fitbit devices, even though some devices don't have certain features. Tracking floors is one of those features. The floor tile also contains the historical information for users who switch from a Fitbit that tracked floors to one that doesn't have that feature.

You can disable the tiles for the features that your Charge 6 doesn't have by using the pencil icon on the Today page.

Would it be possible to get the altitude from the phone? Combined with charge 6?

I wish I'd kept my broken Charge 4 and not bought the Charge 6.  Also, could someone explain how the new app works?  Both are a big disappointment!

Just a comment. So loving my new charge 6 that I bought in the UK a week ago, only to discover that there is no altimeter. Why on earth put all the other features on but leave that out?

And hoping the band will be more robust than previous versions which were terrible.

So do I. My Charge 2 broken a few days ago, try replace with Charge 6, can found it can't count floors.

How do I continue with those "floors" goals?

Hello @TimoHelsinki

There is a tile for floor counting since some users had a device that counted floors and there are a few Fitbit models that count floors.

You can tap the pencil icon in the upper right of the Today page and hide the floor tile.

The issue is that we don’t want the tracker to disappear… we want the altimeter to be put back! Which of course isn’t possible for Charge 6… it should never have been taken off without clear notification when upgrading or purchasing a Charge 6.

Wish I had seen this thread BEFORE I ordered a Charge 6 to replace my Charge 2 that — for all its many faults — did at least feature a reasonably accurate (most of the time) altimeter, that I never imagined wouldn't be carried forward into the “upgraded” models. I wasn’t keen to stay with Fitbit*, but there was data in the app and better the devil you know, right?

Or not.

I do 100 floors before my morning coffee. It’s a HUGE part of my cardio routine, and to not be able to track something I rely on that heavily is much more than a “disappointment”, it’s a non-starter. So it’s back in the box, and my next “upgrade” will be to a different brand. It was bad enough that several of the older trackers (and a few of the new ones, apparently) have suddenly quit reporting workouts back to the app. Google says “We’re aware and we’re working on it.” but this has been going on since at least early September, and it’s been happening in some form for a lot longer than that. The rumor is that Google bought Fitbit to kill it and get all those users to move to the Pixel Watch. They maybe should have considered that if they can’t be trusted to not torpedo Fitbit, why should we think it’d be any different with their watch? (Which as I understand it also doesn’t have an altimeter).

*I’d only had my refurbished Charge 2 for a few months, so brand loyalty wasn’t a problem for me — not that Fitbit is a “brand” anymore since they were Borged by Google.

sorry cant see if i replied. I know they did a silly thing by removing the
altimeter.

@bruje  @Michdan1   I tagged you both, because your posts are the most recent in a very long thread.  Fitbit added ECG and EDA hardware to the Charge 5 and 6.  The altimeter is a piece of hardware.  I saw a YouTube video that showed a complete Charge 5 teardown.  I couldn't see any way to fit the altimeter hardware in the Charge 5/6 and keep a reasonable tracker size.  Just one person's opinion.  Fitbit/Google will never give their answer for the change.
