charge 6 - Why am i not getting Daily readiness score?

ANSWERED

I have a Charge 6 and monitor activity using the fitbit app on a IPad Mini 4

I noticed the Daily Readiness function appear on the app two to three weeks ago, and it routinely said that Fitnit was calculating the score but I needed  the Fitbit for x more nights... X slowly reduced over some 10 days/nights, and now shows a Daily Readiness score of 100.

However when I tap on the score to see details, the app craches.

Am I right in assuming that the demads of the app exceed the IPad's capacity...?

Or is there some sloppy programming or compability checking...?

Or does Google/Fitbit just not care?

I have also noticed the daily readiness score is heavily linked to resting heart rate. This morning my resting heart rate was above normal by 4 but that crash my score down to 15 from 52. All other stats was with in normal range. When this feature was added to my account it took 7 days/nights  to calibrate before I started seeing any score.

Hello @pathopeter

The Fitbit app requires iOS version 15 or higher.

Have you updated your Fitbit app on your iPad? The current iOS version is 4.26 or 4.26.1

Thank you for your response...

My Ipad is running IpadIOS 15.8.3 , I update the FitBit app to 4.27 this morning.

In abot 14 days, the Fitbit has been able to calculate a Daily Readiness score - both times 100%.

Now when I click of the score for more information, it crashes fror those days with the 100% score but not the "unable to calculate a score" days.

Now - a little context - the Fitbit does not show a HRV score or a Breating Rate. I have a heart beat irregulairty (yes, have been to se my GP) and very seldom records a sleep pattern. When it does record a sleep pattern, the only sleep stage recorded is Light Sleep. I suspect the lack of HRV and BR records is a consequene of me waking every couple of hours (that is another issue), and therefore not generating data over at least three hours...

I suspect now, given that the app crashes only when the Daily Readiness score in uncalculable may be a function of the lack of HRV and BR data - but that is just a guess...just as my conclusion that the lack of a HRV and BR data is a function of interipted sleep is a guess...

I would uninstall the Fitbit app then restart iPad than reinstall the Fitbit app. Even with all that data missing the app shouldn’t be crashing on you. Just a note you may require your Fitbit password if you do go down this path of uninstalling/reinstalling Fitbit app. Also make sure the tracker is updated to latest firmware. That shouldn’t make a difference but always best to keep everything updated.

Hello @pathopeter

Thank you for sharing more details.

According to this help page on the Daily Readiness score calculation (<-- click link), the algorithm uses HRV and sleep data to calculate the score. I would agree with you that the app is crashing when you click on the score due to your issues with your sleep data.

I'm not sure what to suggest since you mention that you seldom see sleep data. By any chance, have you tried wearing your Charge 6 on the inside of your wrist at night to see if this position might give you better sleep data?

Thank you for that ...

I will try the suggestion from robworkingout of uninstalling the Fitbit app, restarting the IPad and then re-installing the app

In the meantime, I am leaning to either of two options: the "See Daily Readiness score" function is

  1. either not configured to work with "no sore" data; or
  2. makes demands on the resources of the IPad that exceed the IPad's capacity

Stepping back, before the onset of the irregular heartbeat, all functions worked fine.. the nightly sleep score included data on the duration of each stage of sleep, Breathing rate, HRV, SPO2, Skin temp and RHR were all recorded. When the irregular heart rate started (actually returned but that is another story) the FitBit cased reporting Breathing Rate, HRV, sleep patterns and variability. The few occasions it did record/report sleep patterns, there was only on stage - Light sleep and 100%. Around the same time, the bladder was grumbling and wanting emptying around every 2 hours, so I can see my recorded sleep data perhaps not providing the three hours of continuous data, although the FitBit seemed to cope OK with  slightly less broken sleep...

When the Daily Readiness function was introduced, I activated it but it took around a fortnight to actually report a score - so far, it has reported twice - both 100%. All other nights, it has indicated "no score".

Initially, clicking on the "Daily Readiness Score more information" crashed the app every time. Now with two actual scores on the Fitbit, it crashes only when the day with no score is clicked.

I assume that the Daily Readiness score is calculated automatically once sleep is deemed to have ended rather than when the "more information' option is invoked and this "more information' option is in reality a data presentation algorhythm. Therefore it might be assumed that the data presentation algorhythm has not been written to accommodate missing data?

Now – this “problem” is fairly academic – I do not rely on the Daly Readiness score for information to plan my daily workout; I simply listen to my body… But given I have aid for the functionality, it would be nive to either have it working as designed, or know hy it is not working…

Will report back when I have uninstalled the Fitbit app, restarted the IPad and then re-installed the app; but I will not be holding my breath…

Well - FitBit has made a monkey out of me - the FitBit app no longer crashes when I call up Daily Readiness scores of "no score" or an actual numeric score kind....Strange!

May take 7 days for all information to start showing up. No crashing is a good start. If your iPad couldn’t run the app it wouldn’t let you download the Fitbit app from the Store. The only side effect of using an older iPad is longer wait times for everything to sync up. Once you reinstall the Fitbit app I’m guessing it made you connect the charge 6 tracker again. If that wasn’t the case I would recommend deleting the tracker from app then restart tracker in settings then reconnecting it to the Fitbit app…’add device’

Hello @pathopeter

It looks like whatever issue that was causing your Fitbit app to crash was fixed at the back end.

I restarted the Fitbit Charge 6 and that has coincided with the app no longer crashing - as you say, no doubt some tidying up in the back room...

Resting Hart Rate, however calculated by FitBit (there is no agreed standard and each activity tracker manufacturer has their own) is presumably an inicator of how well you slept (and recovered) and if you didnt sleep well, maybe you shoudl take things easier in the gym?

That said I know of no empirical evidence linking the calculated Daily Readiness score with actual body condition, and when my FitBit , when it diegns to calculate my daily Readiness score, comes up with 100%, I find it difficult to take it seriously...

I’m using these health trackers as a confirmation of my health rather than allow these devices to change my routine/lifestye. Sleep is definitely a big factor in recovery. After a swim day I notice my heart rate is generally higher with walking normally. On just a walking day my heart rate is around 80 normal speed. Problem with heart rates is they change in real time and almost anything can affect resting heart rate which can kick you daily scores out of expectations. This morning I was expecting a high score when I updated app I got a 94 because yesterday I relax with just a walking day. Today I’m off for hour lane swim so expecting around 50ish score tomorrow. I have a question mark over how much activity affects the daily readiness score. Like you said sleep & resting heart rate are the big factors on the daily score.

It’s sloppy programming and they don’t care. It’s January 2025 and you complained about this months ago and they still haven’t fixed it. Line just says wear for 2 more nights … every night.
