More in-depth sleep data analysis (eg impact of activity or HR on sleep)

Hi everyone!!!

Dear Fitbit,

it would be really nice if you could implement more functional sleep analysis. I ask/suggest/offer you to have a look at really interesting app (Sleep Cycle).  Sleep cycleSleep cycle

I am sure that a lot of Fitbit users would appreciate this kind of sleep information. Here you can see some examples but there is much more in it.

1 2 34 I am sure this kind of functionality would bring you more customers and more fun to Fitbit users. Thank you!!!

PS. I am really surprised you have not done it yet

Hello guys,

A feature i’d like to see would be an improvement of the sleeping analysis, It’s already good but I’m sure it could be better.

It should include the sleeping cycles based on our sleeping habits, I’ve heard a few apps already do that so why wouldn’t Fitbit? 😊
The thing would be to analyze our sleeping habits and then conclude what our cycles are. Then, based on that, we could see when it’s better to go sleep to have a full cycle, when to wake up,…
It could also prevent us from waking up just before a cycle has ended but instead, wake us up at the right time so we won’t struggle to get out of our beds. To do so, I’ll give an example : I set my alarm at 7:00 but with a “balance” of 15 minutes. This way if my cycle ends at 6:45 my alarm goes on to wake me up or waits to wake me up at 7:15 to accomplish a full cycle.

I don’t know what you guys think about this, but in my case those features would be very helpful.
I also truly apologize for my writing but English isn’t my mother tongue (French is J )

Thank you for reading me and have a great day.

I do really like this idea @Michael! Having the chance to see more detailed information about your heart rate during sleep time, may help you to see if something is going on at that time. I've noticed that your heart rate can change if you have a nightmare and this can helps us to see in what exact moment this happened.

I encourage you to keep sharing your ideas and thoughts over the Community. See you later!

I liked who I turned the sleep monitor on and off with my Fitbit one.  While I realize that the heart rate is a good indicator I like seeing how long it takes me to fall asleep so I can maybe look back and say oh yes, this that or the other thing kept me awake.  I have also had it not wake me up according to my heart rate.

What did the Jawbone do during sleep mode that fitbit doesn't? Thanks

I have a sleep disorder and am finding the fitbit data very insightful. I have my sleep set to sensative and have been tracking for the past few weeks since I bought the fitbit HR. I find myself comparing my heart rate overnightto my sleep graph and want to see a syncranized graph so that I can see my heart rate compared to my sleep state thoughout the night. I keep going back and forth between the 2 separate graphs and trying to interpret the data is difficult. Am I missing something here, but it would seem logical to me to pair these 2 items together to provide a whole other dynamic to sleep analysis. FYI, I generally have almost 3 hrs of restless sleep a night, but my lowest sustained heartrate is around 56. Knowing heart rate compated to sleep data would allow me to determine if I am awake and restless or if my heart rate is low, I would determine that I am asleep but restless.... if that makes any sense. Thanks for you input. I am wondering if I am just missing something or if anyone else know how to do this.

It shows how long your light sleep phases are and how long your deep sleep phases are, then it calculates both separately. It really gives a good picture of how you slept. When I feel really off, I can see how my nights have affected me.

Great idea! To my knowledge, I do not think the two data sets (sleep HR, and sleep patterns) can be viewed together. I too have a sleep disorder and I fully stand behind your request! Seems like it could be a easy display programming fix. GREAT idea! Thanks! +1 vote!

A line graph showing of heart rate vs movement can show if you're having sleep apnea. I had this idea years ago. Would be awesome for neurologist to help diagnose sleep apnea

It has been a week and a haff since my original post. I have continued to monitor my heart rate and compare the data to my sleep data. I have experimented some and have determined that the data is very accurate when sleep is set to sensative. When set to nornal, the sleep data misses all of movements that tie significantly to heat rate. Tha said, having done the comparison for some time, I can now look at my heart rate and tell the quality of my sleep even before looking at the sleep data. It has been 100% accurate in my opinion. For me, If my heart rate is between 57-63 I am sleeping. Anywhere between 64-68, I am either awake or sleepless, 69 + and i am definately awake. Having discovered this, I went back an scrolled through by heart rate data over the past month and without looking at my sleep data have been able almost 100% determine the quality of my sleep independent of the sleep graphs. I know this does not account for resporation, body temputature, etc. It may not be totally scientific, but it has proven to be significantly helpfull to me. Would love to see this upgrade for others. Think it boost fitbits features compared to other devices.. Ive taken the time to prove this for myself. If you agree, please vote for this and help sleepless individuals like myself obtain usefull data to pass along to the professionals who are also trying to help us. Ive got a appointment with my sleep specialist on Monday. i am going to use this finding and hope my doctor supports it.

Would be great to have an option on the dashboard to create user reports that can overlay different data such as the sleep and HR, or anything else that is on a timeline.

Thanks for this sharing this idea! I really would love to see my sleep's heart rate data to have a better understanding about my sleep. Hopefully this will be implemented in the future, so let's keep voting! 🙂

The graph needs to show all sleep for a given day or period, not just the longest period each day. Currently, the graph does not accurately represent your sleep if you have more than one sleep period per day. Taking the scaling out of the display will also assist on correcting this associated issue.

Sorry everyone, but did you not read the "Terms"?  "However, neither Fitbit, nor any of its employees, may accept or consider any unsolicited ideas,..."  Good ol' patent/intelectual property law & lawyers. Phooey!

Nonetheless, I too would like an overlay graph showing both heart rate and sleep pattern, preferably with the ability to expand small segments fot detailed examination.

Now everyone get your mental telepathy going to put that idea into the Dashboard designers' heads, as that's the only legal way for them to get it.

*OR* they could just let us download our own data in detail - even forking over another $50 for "Premium" doesn't get you anything but summaries, not the minute-by-minute (5 sec.-by-5sec.?) raw data.  So much for "Your data belongs to you."

Yes I'd like that info as well. The current graphing with most recent updates is subpar sadly. It is not as clear as the old graph. 😕 Especially for anyone wanting to monitor things more closely for health issues.

Microsoft Health (Band/2) has HR superimposed on the sleep activity.

I find it much better than FitBit.  Sleep Activity tracking is much better too.

This is where MS Band Excels

I would love an option to rate how you feel the following day such as whether you feel rested or tired to compare how well the data says you slept vs how you actually feel to determine things like your ideal number of hours of sleep etc

So my mother in law got a jawbone a few weeks ago after years of fit bit and is blown away by the sleep tracking. She says it takes your heart rate and movement and every morning gives you an analysis of how you slept. Not just some graphs you have to compare and interpret yourself (like I understand you can do with fitbit) but an actual report of "you only had 2 hours of deep sleep last night, if you have time today take a nap but you should increase your water intake by 20% today so you don't feel over tired. I think this would be an easy feature for fitbit to incorporate, as they have all the data already.

Nice wrote down! I vote for this... Especially for the second paragraph (in the first I can work with outputs about sleep and every additional should be just hints).

But the second is the thing that some android app can do (no offense their quality) and fitbit I believe could make it better thanks to HR.

Thanks for sharing your idea! This can be helpful for users that want to get more data from their sleep.

Additionally, a feature request for a smart alarm that factors in your REM cycle already exists. I would recommend voting for this feature request if it's something that you'd like to see from Fitbit.

Thanks for posting on the Feature Request board!
