Hi @Nimmer09 can you share more information about why you want this feature? This may relate to this existing suggestion around having a driving mode where you can turn off step collection. Some devices can be turned off, like Blaze, Ionic, Surge and One.
Yes it is mainly while driving. I work for a tree company and we trim power lines. We have to drive down bumpy roads at slower speeds which adds a ton of steps. I have estimated over 3k steps in a day that were due to this. This makes the fit bit pointless watch due to the calories it counts while walking. There are times I go up in a bucket truck and trim trees which adds floors counted. I have had 54 floors on a day when it should have been about 10. My road is bumpy due to winter and you have to drive slow, which also adds steps. A “pause” option in the menus would be a big help. NOT something you have to go to Fitbit.com dash board for either. Something in the bands menu specifically. Fitbit owners should also have the option to track or not track certain things (ie. floors climbed)
I agree @Nimmer09 my issue is similar & to add to it we cant have mobiles on our worksite to sync the tracker!!
Below is what I think the Ionic in particular should be able to provide given its price.
* First is the ability for the Ionic to remember the time/date if you down power it for any reason and turn it back on at a later date. In my case i work on a mine site and occasionally operate heavy mining equipment which, due to the vibration, gives me false steps so i either don't wear it or turn it off. I know most users would then say `well why don't you just sync it to your mobile phone to bring it back into the current time`, i would but the mine has a no mobile phone policy which stops me from being able to do this. Surely this is an easy fix almost every other piece of electronics in the world that keeps track of time can maintain the time into its memory.
* Secondly the ability for the Ionic to have an integrated pause function or app for steps which would be even better for the above mentioned point. If this was implemented then there would be a need to ever turn the tracker off and i could just pause the step count whenever i was going to operate the equipment.
I think it would be great to have some kind of pause option for the step counter. I have found that when I do activities such as mow grass on a ride mower, ATV riding, etc, the tracker tracks the bumps while riding as steps. This obviously gives an inaccurate reading as to my daily step count. Meanwhile I would love for it to continue to keep track of my activity such as heart rate.
Work outside/drive a lot on undeveloped and bumpy roads throughout the day. I need a quick way to pause the step counter for short, frequent intervals so my driving isn’t counted. The option to go back and manually negate those short intervals is too time consuming. Thanks.

Before I ordered my versa I contacted Fitbit support to see if mowing/driving a tractor at work would impact my step count, (why i don't use cheap pedometers or my cell phone) they assured me that through science/magic and arm movements it would only register steps. Now I find out that it will register every bump as a step... Having a button on the watch similar to their app buttons that would pause step tracking while I am on equipment, then allow me to start it when I do something else would be AMAZING!♡ (and make up for the disappointment of being mislead)this would also be helpful for people on road trips or doing things with their hands that register as steps. Please help.
I have found that I don't get a lot of extraneous steps while driving, but I mowed the lawn for almost two hours on a riding mower and it got logged as a 12-mile bike ride. This feature would be amazing!

Because we all know there are many non-activities that falsely register steps or floors, it would be awesome if one of the "exercises" we could pick would be "Don't track anything" or if there was a simple "Pause Tracking" on the device.
Hi @F.Fletch, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. This feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here. At the moment it is not planned to implement it. Nonetheless you can still add your vote.
We need to be able to pause the step counter for any reason we need, my Charge 3 counts steps while I'm driving, I've read about people having steps counted while doing non-stepping activities such as knitting and other activities like that. I had a fitness tracker in the past that would allow for this, if a cheap fitness tracker can do this, it should be just a matter of tweaking some code to make this happen. Please give us the ability to easily pause and restart the counter, preferably on the device, if not there, then on the app. I have the Charge 3, but this feature should be compatible with all devices.
Hi @WrethaOffGrid, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about being able to pause steps counter. This feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here as it is not currently planned.
Could you add a pause function to temporarily stop counting steps. I have recorded 450 steps peeling potatoes along with 150 using a screw driver! I appreciate my Fitbit device can't distinguish every movement. So what not have a button press option to temporarily stop recording steps? maybe vibrate every minute as a reminder steps are paused?

I currently have a fitbit charge 6. I think it will be really helpful if there's the option to stop counting my steps. Like a button showing something on the lines of "pause step counting", or "pause steps", which proceeds the user to a screen asking if the user wants to stop it forever or for a certain time (e.g. 15 mins, 1 hour, etc)
