Use NFC chip as OV-chipkaart for public transit in the Netherlands

In The Netherlands, many people use the OV-chipkaart on a daily basis. It's one NFC card used for all trains and buses in the country. This includes public transport companies like:

  • Nederlandse Spoorwegen
  • Arriva
  • Connexxion
  • Qbuzz
  • Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram
  • HTM Personenvervoer
  • Gemeentelijk Vervoerbedrijf (GVB)
  • Hermes

The technical implementation using a single card for all companies is done by the umbrella organization Trans Link Systems (AKA Translink).

Hi @SpO2! That’s an interesting idea and could be useful, thanks for sharing this suggestion.

First Steps

This implementation would be huge for consumers and Fitbit itself, as OV-Chipkaaart isn't supported by phones. Big step upfront.
