My dad is an added contact for my sons phone. He can receive calls and texts from my son but if he opens the app it asks him to set up a watch. How can he use the app to communicate without my son initiating on his watch?

Does the receiver (the person the child is attempting to contact) need to have the Fitbit Ace app to receive calls and texts from the child?

No, They just need to have the app, because the watch doesn't use standard messaging programs they'll have to install the app in order to message or call.

I wish they said that in the sales. Instead they advertise communicate with up to 20 friends. It should say up to 20 friends that have the app installed.

Exactly. I would have likely purchased this already for my son if it weren't for that restriction. Fitbit/Google gets away with having to use a real phone number/line, but the resulting inconvenience was easily enough to dissuade me from buying.

Yes, "up to 20 trusted contacts" mislead me. I bought one for my son.
I assumed that since it's an LTE device running Wear OS, that it meant it has its own number / can be called / messaged directly but only by listed contacts.
I've gotta say though, if they could fix this major flaw this device would be exactly what I wanted for my son.
