We are considering purchasing one of these for our daughter but I'm seeing conflicting information. Does calling and messaging require wifi or will it work via LTE as well? It was mentioned on an Amazon review that those features only work via wifi which makes the LTE misleading. Thanks for your help!

We have two of these in our house and the Amazon review is wrong. Calling and texting definitely works over LTE. I'm not sure what the point would be if it didn't?

The Fitbit Ace LTE uses LTE to communicate with other users on its contact list. I think the confusion is that the watch doesn't get its own phone number. There is no physical number to dial and it's all done through the Fitbit Ace app.
I been able to successfully make phone calls and messages everywhere I go through it's LTE network. There's a WiFi option if it's available. For me, it mostly uses the LTE network.

Do not believe the Amazon review. I've been able to successfully set up 2 Ace LTEs and can message and call over an LTE network called Ace Pass.

That's what I was thinking! What would be the point and that would be a huge red flag for FitBit to claim LTE but require Wi-Fi to communicate. Thanks for the reply!

I've read that messages can be sent through WiFi or LTE. But in either case they go through Ace Pass.
Connecting to the home WiFi will substantially save battery.

Hi was wondering if the Ace LTE requires an active pass subscription to use the messaging and calling on WiFi? Makes sense to need LTE for non-wifi messages and calls but if a subscription is needed for WiFi then that's an obvious paywall similar to their competitor (Garmin Bounce which locks users out of key advertised functions if a subscription is not active).
Trying to see if WiFi messaging and calling is possible without a subscription plan before buying a Fitbit Ace LTE.

Is it possible, I don't know. A subscription may probably is not needed for WiFi, but is needed to setup the Ace LTE. Now if you Ed t to track or communicate with the child, and their watch isn't connected to WiFi, a subscription is needed. The only WiFi they would be connecting to is your home's WiFi
Messages and phone calls go through a Google server, it doesn't matter how the watch is connected,

if it did not use LTE what's the point of calling it "Ace LTE"
