Hai, Snek noodle reaches goal and then... dies

So my kid, a snake lover, uses the Hai, Snek noodle from the Strange Arcade band. When we first used this noodle, the snake would reach the goal after his day and then happy snek. Then one day the little guy would reach the end and looks like he ate something nasty at the end there because he'd get XX eyes and turn blue-green. We tried a bunch of things to change this back but never did figure it out. Then one day happy snek was back! Hooray! Except a couple of weeks ago suddenly it was back to eating that dart frog and XX. There doesn't seem to be any noodle settings beyond "I want to use this noodle" and the only setting to be found when clicking the edit button when selecting noodle is the time typeface setting. School mode being active, inactive, or off altogether doesn't change the behavior; we tried all those things for a day each on a weekend, so at very least the experience has given me a tech troubleshooting teaching opportunity.

Any ideas? We never noticed multiple end pictures with the dog noodle and we used that for quite some time.

Oh I'll add a picture tomorrow. He meets his goal (120, set by him) 95%+ of the time so of course the day I want a picture is the rare day he didn't.
