Hello!
setting up my son’s watch and after I enter the WiFi password in the initial setup it immediately takes me to a new window on my phone saying Sign in Failed: Make sure Fitbit is nearby and WiFi is available Error Code: ERR_S038
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What's the make and model of the device that you're using to set up?
I generally suggest the following for Android devices (I'm an Android user so I have no way of knowing if this would work on Apple):
1.) Clear the app cache: Usually this can be done by going to "Settings", then "Apps" and selecting "Fitbit Ace". You can also find the app icon directly, hold it for a few seconds, and then select "App Info". It will take you to the same page. What this does is delete any files needed to keep the app operational but not lose any data.
2.) Make sure all apps on the device are updated.
3.) Check for firmware updates on the device.
4.) Restart the device that you're using to pair the watch with.
For Fitbits, I usually recommend either turning off or removing any BT enabled devices from the area you're in to prevent BT interference.
Although not specific to Fitbit, I did do an online search about what your error code means, and it appears there might be storage issues on the device. Generally, I suggest deleting any emails, texts, videos, or apps you no longer need, as these can take up an enormous amount of space.

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately it's still not working after trying all those steps. I'll reach out to google tomorrow to see what they say.

I'm having the same issue on android. I've tried setup on multiple phones. It seems like it a security setting on my son's google account is preventing the login.
