App subtracting calories with weight lifting

Hi all,

I have an Alta HR. I've recently been logging my resistance training. Because there is no resistance training option (gross oversight), I've been using the weight lifting setting. I've noticed that when I log anything as weight lifting, it actually subtracts the number of calories I have left in the day. A 30 minute workout knocks off about 75 calories overall. I don't really expect that I burn that many calories while resistance training; my heart rate doesn't elevate that much. However, I shouldn't be gaining calories while working out. I'm fine with not logging the exercise, but the developers may want to check it out if it's a bug.

Hi @CoyoteS., welcome to the Community Forums.

It sounds strange that the calories are reducing when logging your activity, and thanks for bringing this to my attention. While the resistance training isn't an option, you can create a custom activity. That being said, may I know if you enter the calories when logging your activity? Did you use the Fitbit app in your phone? If so, may I know your phone's model?

In the meantime, I'd recommend the following steps:

  1. Log out from the Fitbit app.
  2. Force quit the Fitbit app or close it from the open apps.
  3. Reboot your phone.
  4. Verify that the Fitbit app is updated to the latest version.
  5. Log back into the Fitbit app.
  6. Try logging your activity one more time.

Keep me posted.

I don't enter calories, I just enter the start and stop time and the exercise category. I have the same issue whether it is listed as strength training and weights. The problem still occurs after I followed your directions

Hi @CoyoteS., It's nice to see you around. I'm sorry for the delay in my response.

Thanks for your efforts in trying the steps posted above. Let me explain that the calories are calculated based on your personal information, this is why I'd recommend to enter the calories when logging your activity, so the Fitbit app can save your information based on the actual data recorded. If after doing that, the amount of calories decreases, please let me know if you log the activity in the Fitbit app using your phone. If so, provide me with your phone's model and OS version.

Keep me posted.

Same here. I have a One and when I manually enter 1 hour weights (for Les Mills Body Pump) it subtracts calories. So I've stopped entering that exercise 😕
