ive made sure everything is up to date and everything is on. but everytime i go in the fitbit app and go to spotify app to install it but its grayed out for me idk what to do.

@grumpyguts2 as mentioned in the pinned post on the Charge 4 board, and above. This firmware gets downloaded in the background, once the whole file has been retrieved the user receives a message that the firmware is ready to be installed.

Posting a reply here in hopes that anyone else like me who purchased a fitbit versa lite during the current sale can get some peace of mind-
Fitbit only downloads updates piece by piece when it syncs with your phone. Despite saying there are no updates, it's just working on getting the latest firmware. Just make sure your all day sync is on and wait it out.
I will add, it's a frustrating solution and a pain that the company has no way to force download an update and for some of us the reason we purchased the watch in the first place is unusable for the first few days.
