Will they be able to set it to ones own photo to customize it or just stock photos?

You will be able to create your own clock face. The SDK is open and you can even create apps that you just share with friends without fitbit approval. I think the open nature of the software development is one of the major selling features of the watch. I can't wait to get one.

I imagine this would require you to have a certain degree of programming skills though, not for the everyday user.

Lol, yeah I sometimes forget I'm in the bubble. You would need some basic skills, but if the SDK is as advertised the average person could do it with about an hour of training. I'm not saying create a full fledged app, but they could certainly create a custom clock face if they are indeed using SVG and Javascript. If the SDK works as stated I'll even post a tutorial for everyone. I'm making the caveat that I haven't seen the SDK yet, and it may not work as advertised, but if it does look for a tutorial here by the first of October.

Excellent, that would be very useful. I don't have any programming skills myself but would definitely like to give it a go if it's not too difficult.

You really just need to be able to type and copy and paste a file. They have libraries and I've done some research, so yeah I can post a tutorial when the watch is released. I predict we'll see a bunch of apps and very soon after launch. The customization of this watch is going to be amazing, and they've kept the ease of use that Pebble started.

That would be great, thanks.

Hi everyone -- We have leveraged the experience of Pebble and kept the best elements of their developer strategy the same: an open platform based on standard technologies (JavaScript and SVG), a Web-based editor to build a first app in minutes, and a commitment to creating and empowering a rich developer community. Developers can build any type of app for Fitbit Ionic, ranging from new types of exercising apps to clock faces and more.

Developers can download the SDK from the Fitbit website: https://dev.fitbit.com/.

Is it basically adding your own background....or can you customize things on the display like steps and HR? Can you change the font or color or size of the clock?

so I've done the 1st step following the instructions

I got my image on my watch - how to I fix the time to change the color and to have it placed where I want it?

then how do I have it show my steps and other functions

it's like the directions were super easy to get my pic on  - but then got over my head
