How to get the Weather app to sync?

ANSWERED

Ok, I have tried everything, short of totally "burning down the house" -- doing a factory reset with the Ionic, deleting it from my Fitbit account, uninstalling every instance of the Fitbit software, and then hoping that it might magically make the Weather app work if I start everything from scratch.  I have tried everything short of that, and it simply, utterly will not work when I try to input a city name, and it will not work with my phone's current location.  My Weather app is as dead as a piece of software can be dead.

So, does anyone have it working properly?  I would like to know if it actually works halfway well, before I destroy everything else that I've got working.  And could you also describe how it works?  I have the following questions:

How and when does it sync?  I presume it syncs with your phone, and presumably via Bluetooth.  Is that correct, or might it only sync with whatever Wi-Fi connection you used to set the Ionic up with, to begin with?  And if it does sync via Bluetooth on your phone, how often does it sync?  Is the frequency something you can set?

Mainly, I'm wondering if you can pop into the Weather app, and halfway reliably see what the local temperature is outdoors.  If it only syncs once per hour or less frequent, then I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort.

And so on.  Thanks in advance for letting me know how it works, because I really dread going through the factory reset routine, because I went through a nightmare to get my Ionic set up to begin with.  I really don't want to go through that, if it's not likely to work, or if the app is actually quite lame, and not worth the effort to begin with.

Thanks again!

I’m also having issues with weather on my Versa. My weather app displays __C and the message “Sync the FitBit mobile app to update.”

i think I’ve tried every recommendation previously listed here except using a watch face for weather. These recommendations include:

1) Location services - It’s set to always on

2) All day sync - it’s turned on

3) Bluetooth and WiFi are enabled

4) Weather app has all permissions enabled.

5) Versa syncs with the FitBit app (I get notifications and my daily stats, like steps, show up in the app)

6) Background app refresh is on for the FitBit app

7) Cellular data is turned on for the FitBit app

😎 It appears weather isn’t a third party app. It says it’s offered by FitBit. When I click “Contact Developer” I’m taken to these FitBit help pages.

9) I’m using an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 12.1.2

In the settings for the app, I can’t add a city. When I try to, I get a spinning icon, but it never returns any options. I’m left with what I’ve typed, a blank screen, and the option to cancel in the upper left corner.

I tried adding a third third party weather app, WeatherCast by Chris Spooner. It installed but also failed to update. I wonder if the failures are related.

@Larryi, please stop. I want the FitBit app to work. I don’t want a workaround. I said so in my post. You’re NOT answering my question.

Sorry. I have the same problem with with the Ionic weather app. My watch weather app also says Accuweather.
Maybe Fitbit hasn’t paid their bill to Accuweather for the service.

Anyway, from the get-go I never planned on using the Ionic weather app. I’m a throwback from Pebble and wanted the weather like it was on the Pebble.
pWeather fills that need.

Mine displays the weather after I sync. Just a thought, I have the Accuweather App and I noticed that before I sync that the watch says information provided by Accuweather. Perhaps it is significant.

I have written Fitbit several times asking them to fix my Weather app. Mine works off & on. More off than on. Very frustrating to say the least. Last word from Fitbit was they asked me to video my Weather app until it disappears & send it to them?  Are they for real?  Do they think I have time to do something like that?  Also, there is another smaller town near me showing up on the weather feature when it does show up that I did not even put in there. But there is no way to take it off. I go to the Weather settings to take it out & it’s not even in there!  Go figure!  So I have an off & on Weather feature. And apparently Fitbit doesn’t care. They’re wanting ME to figure out a solution instead of them. I have a cheaper tracker with a weather feature that works perfectly. It cost me 1/5 of what the Fitbit cost. So if they can get the weather feature to work fine, then Fitbit could too!  The only reason I’m not using the cheaper one is it has no Back button. Do you know hiw annoying that is?  So I just keep hoping I’m going to sync one day & see a new update & it will take all those weather frustrations away. I’ve kearned though that just because something costs more it doesn’t mean it’s the best!  Still waiting for a fix Fitbit!  You never Should’ve sold it if it doesn’t work!

I am having a similar problem getting the weather to show up on the black/white clock face.( date, Battery\steps, bluetooth symbol, time, am/pm, day and weather (location, weather status and temp). My home location shows but the temp has not changed since I got the Iconic. Even though this has ranged from 12 to 42 degrees. The dedicated weather app does work and shows the current temp but not the clockface. I am using an iPhone 6s and all the setting as previously described (location, mobile data, etc etc) are all correct.

I have tried to insert a photo but that proves too difficult!!!!

@kenrconn Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for sharing all of those details regarding the situation you are experiencing with weather. Thanks for trying to insert a picture.

Is this also happening with other clock faces? Please try changing the clock face to another one and check if the same keeps happening. This has helped other users in the past.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

Try clock face “pWeather”. I’ve tried at least a dozen other ones. For me this is the best In addition to all those things you want displayed, it shows you when it last updated. There have been a few times when it didn’t update as indicated by the time it last updated. To fix that all you have to do is open the Fitbit app on your phone and it will sync. I keep the Fitbit app on in the background.

@VixenFairplay Welcome to the Fitbit family! Thanks for taking the time to report that you are also experiencing this situation with the weather not updating.

Make sure you have background app refresh enabled:

  • Go to your phone settings
  • Go to Fitbit app toward the bottom
  • Turn it on

You could also try using a different clock face. This has helped other users in the past.

@Larryi I hope you're doing well! Thank you very much for sharing this. I think a lot of users will find your post to be very helpful. Thanks for your contribution.

I know how to get it to sync. I simply have to open my Fitbit app & it syncs. But - that weather stays there or disappears until I open the Fitbit app again, in which case it refreshes everything, including the weather. This is not a very accurate weather reading since the weather is ever-changing. But - it is what it is.

Thanks for the info. It was not that I wanted the weather app but the "time and weather" clock face did not update the weather. I tried the pWeather clock face but it did not show me all the data that I liked. When I switched back to the "time and weather" clock face it gave me the local weather where I am at the moment ( on holiday) which it wasn't doing before. Let's see when I get home if it changes from hoMe to work locations as it should have done. Thanks again.

Thanks for the information provided @kenrconn and @Nanabev8Are you using the default Weather app from Fitbit or a Third-Party one? May I have the name of it? If you have been having syncing difficulties, please see: Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

If the weather for your current location doesn’t appear, check that you turned on location services for the Fitbit app. For instructions, see How do I allow the Fitbit app to use my phone's GPS?

Looking forward to your reply!

Default weather app. My Fitbit syncs fine with my phone and app other than this issue.

Hi @dfwvol, thanks for jumping in here! I recommend keeping the "all-day sync" turned on so that the Charge 3 will pull your weather as often as possible.

Also, if you open up the app to sync, and then go to the Weather tracking screen with the app open, it seems to send the data through at that point? (as if it needs to be pulled through).

Something that happened to me was that changes done on the Fitbit app on my iPhone were not being synced with the Charger 3. So, I tried General>Reset>Reset Location & Privacy on my iPhone, and then everything started working. So, it's fixed and I can start seeing the Weather on my 'Location'.

Let me know the outcome!

Finally!!! The Settings > Reset > Reset Privacy Setting seemed to work. I did that, then went to the weather app on my phone which then asked me to give the app share location permission. Then went to the Fitbit app and toggled the settings for the weather app.

My weather app is now working!

Simplest solution I found was to switch to another clock face.

I used one that showed weather data which may or may not matter, then synced with the Fitbit app.

App started working after that so I switched back to the clock face I had been using.

I dont know about everyone else but my issues started after updating my phone.

Would be useful if they could carry out some regression testing before pushing out software updates.

I don’t know if it’s considered a third party app, but it’s available within the Fitbit app. I don’t know what the icon is called...but on Fitbit app click the icon in upper left of screen. There it should show icons that say “wallet”, “media”, “apps”, etc. One of them says “clock faces”. click that, and on the next screen click “all clocks”. Then click on the search icon and type in “pWeather”. That will take you to the clock app?? that I use. Remember to change the settings as required.
To get your Fitbit stats you just tap the upper edge of screen and they appear. Tap it again to close the screen.

By the way, following instructions that I read recently, I got the the actual WEATHER app to work, but afterward I had to change Centigrade back to Fahrenheit
But again, I don’t use that weather app because it requires swiping right to left a couple times, then tapping WEATHER. I prefer to have it on the clock face all the time without any swiping or tapping.
