In this forum, why does the popup over the vote icon tell me I can't vote?

You should be able to vote for most posts except those you make yourself. Care to show us which one you can't vote on?

I was nable to vote on the video of the vet who lost 140 lbs in 10 months.  The guy did incredibly good!

I found that I couldn't vote until I created a community nickname for myself. Once I did that, then the +Thumbs up icon appeared next to people's posts.
