I was given as a gift a Fitbit device about six months ago. The person whom gave me this gift also setup the APP on my phone for me. Today I find out that I've been charged £79.99 for the use of the APP. This is both totally unacceptable, and more so inappropriate as I will explain. I am disabled with very restricted mobility. I am not exactly the target audience for such a subscription as I cannot get out of bed nor dress myself without assistance, so an APP that measures my workouts (???) is as much use as a chocolate teapot to me. Fitbit did not contact me to say they were going to start charging me to use an APP that I have absolutely no use for. Nor will they speak to me on the phone as allegedly this superdupa special subscription, that I knew nothing about, was setup within the APP and I have to talk to Google. I have enough problems in my life without trying to secure a refund via an AI chatbot. To those more affluent than myself £80 may be an acceptable price for a yearly subscription to an APP. But to me £80 is a substantial amount of money for an APP I don't use, and couldn't use even if I wanted to, and would be better spent in support of my palliative care for the limited time I have left.
So to anyone at Fitbit whom may read this. Are you really that comfortable in your shoes that taking money without first contacting the victim is a valid business practice? Congratulations, you've won the "kick the man when he's already down" award.

Welcome to the community forums, @Nidgee.
Thanks for the detailed information. I understand where you're coming from and I'm sorry for the inconvenience this situation has caused. Before anything else, I'd like to clarify that Fitbit Premium provides additional benefits that are optional. However, the usage of the Fitbit app will remain free to sync and check your stats.
Since you mentioned that someone else set up your Fitbit device, it's possible that they started the free trial, which seems to have expired a few days ago. As outlined in our Terms for paid services, Premium subscriptions are non-refundable. Nevertheless, I'd recommend contacting your phone's app store so they can evaluate your options and continue helping you. You can also check this help article for instructions on how to cancel your subscription.
