Mileage calculation accuracy

My wife took a walk yesterday.  Both my Fitbit and the iPhone Health app calculated the walk to be 2.8 miles (on both my phone and my wife's).  We drove the exact path and our car odometer indicated the mileage to be just over 4 miles (which we believe to be accurate based upon our typical pace of 13.5-15 minutes per mile).  Any idea why the Fitbit would be calculating the mileage so much differently?  To the extent it matters, I set up the stride length in the advanced setting when I set up the device initially and the "Set Automatically" setting is turned on.  Thanks all.  Ron

It's not going to answer your question, but I have noticed this too. My treadmill showed I walked 3.4 miles, while Fitbit thought I walked 2.4! That's a whopping 33% off!

I have my default stride length setup, but didn't think I would be that far off!
