Steps not equaling the correct miles

I earned almost 20000 steps today but my FitBit and app is only showing 4.5 miles. I have tried restarting the Fitbit, restarting my phone and all starter steps. How can I resolve this matter???

I have a goal to reach by the end of the year and need to record the accurate amount of miles.

Does your mileage  normally seem too low, or was it just today?

 

Did you do a lot of distance using GPS?

 

Check that your stride length didn't get set too low.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
