I cancelled fitbit app on phone and downloaded it again per instructions from fitbit advocate. I downloaded app to phone again but cannot log on because email is already used. what can I do since this is the only e mail I have

Sounds like you tried to create a new account instead of just logging into existing account with same email.

Are you able to login to the fitbit web site at https://www.fitbit.com/?
Maybe try resetting your password online, and then clearing the cache on your mobile device, before logging in there.
