@Celestedevoll Thanks for being part of the Fitbit family! To change your main goal please do the following:

  • Open the Fitbit app.
  • Tap the tracker tile located at the top right corner of the dashboard.
  • Tap "Main Goal".
  • Change the main goal to steps.

Also, it may be that you don't have your Flex paired to your account because it was unpaired for some reason. Please double check that! If you don't have it paired, please follow these set up steps for Android devices

Try that out and let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy

I have followed the steps to change my main goal from calories to steps to be displayed on my iPhone Fitbit dashboard, but it remains on calories.  Please help.

@Vernagale Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Are you syncing your tracker right after making those changes on the app? You need to sync in order for changes to be effective.

You could also try to change your main goal on your device settings on the online dashboard. Again, make sure to sync afterwards.

Im having the same issue what happened? i dont care about calories, i want to know my steps dammit

I am running into the same issue. No matter where I look there seems to be no option to change your main goal. How is this difficult to find? It is about as much as a pain syncing with the phone at times.

In 2018 with the current app and current console online where are these settings?

So, I finally found it with the most resent versions of FitBit online and I also included the steps on the phone (Android). I assume they moved the interfaces to tiles, so the settings should be there I assume. I am not a FitBit admin, just an end-users like the rest frustrated that no answers can easily be found. I hope this helps someone else.

Website Console:
1. Login to the FitBit Dashboard page on a PC (I assume this will work on all browsers)

2.  Let the Dashboard load and look for the "Today" tile and hover on it.

3. On that tile after hovering you should see a gear icon that pops out of the bottom of the tile

4. Click that and from there you should be able to set your new goal.

5. Click Done to complete your settings change

Original question about switching to Steps:
From what I found when I was looking to change my goal of steps. It seems there was a question on how to change that from calories to steps. I think the same can be done in the 7-Day Average/Beat Yesterday/Lifetime ... tile. When you hover over the tiles there should be a setting icon that pops out on the bottom which allows changes, but in my case I have a drop down in this tile that allows to change from steps to cal, heart rate and so on.

On the phone (Android):

1. Load Fitbit App

2. Tap "Today" (top tile)

3. On the foloowing page tap the gaer icon in the top right

4. From there you sohuld be in "Activity Goals".

5. Tap on each that you would like to change.

I too am unable to get the Fitbit activity screen on my Charge 2 to change from calories  to steps. I found the main goal, changed it to steps, synced an the iPhone activity tracker still has calories as the main screen.

I do not have a Charge 2, but I would imagine the issue would fall in the steps I listed above. If you changed them, I bet that an unpaid and repairing of the tracker would pick up the changes. I have also noticed that it can take over an hour to sync changes.

Changing it on the website dashboard did NOTHING for me.

If anyone is still struggling with this on the FitBit iPhone app, like I was, I found a way to move the tiles around. All you have to do is long-press on the icon you wish to move, and you should feel a little vibration, and notice all the icons are shaking slightly (exactly like you would if you were re-arranging apps around on your phone), and then just hold the icon and move it to where you want it to go

My steps were on the far-left, and I just wanted them front and center on the app. Hope this helps others.

I found a way that you can I wasn’t having this issue for the longest time. I found out how to change it on you phone.

- Go into your account icon in the top left corner of the updated 2019 Fitbit app

- Then click the tab that says flex 2

- Next scroll down until you see main goal, click on it

-now you can choose your new main goal!

hope this helps you all!
