You don't have to reach that goal (or any other goal) right away. If it's too tough for the time being, set a more easily achievable goal and progressively increase from there.
Fitbit lets you set a weekly goal (eg. 70,000 steps). This is better than a daily goal IMO, as it gives you more flexibility: you don't have to achieve your goal everyday.
I also found 10k challenging when I started (one year ago). Now it's 20k that's proving challenging, above all because it's time-consuming for someone with a desk job.

Dominique, I was in the same boat. I wanted to walk more, but couldn't find the time to get to 20,000. I ended up taking long walks in the evening (much to my wife's dismay) to get to it. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to purchase a treadmill desk. I went all out and purchased a LifeSpan desk: http://www.lifespanfitness.com/workplacesolutions-treadmill-desk-and-bike-desk.html
There are also many resources online of how to make your own with a fraction of the cost.
The result: I regularly do 20k steps a day and often 25k steps. I also find that I am much more alert and can be more focused with work (which was suprising). The only downside is that I need to stop walking when I'm on the phone. I walk at 1 mile/hour and can very comfortably do all work at that pace, like typing this message right now 🙂
if you march in place for one tv show in the evening (about an hour) you will not only get 10k a day, but you'll exceed it 🙂 just some food for thought!
if you get tired just march in place and then sit down during commercial breaks or vise versa.
i did this last night, marched, jogged, side stepped, did some back kicks and knee ups, etc. it was fun and i got about 8k steps from doing just that.

Like the guys have said, don't rush. I've had mine for a few months and the other day I reached 5k! It is a recomendation/guidance but again you don't rush with it. My job is quite active so I often achieve my 10k. I randomly ran before work too, but I have no idea if/when that will happen again. Don't push yourself too hard too soon, things do get easier and you learn more about the Fitbit. It took me a while to learn about mine and I'm still probably learning heaps.
Here is a very long (I've only read some of the posts) but funny thread about what people do for their steps.

Best AnswerI did something similar when the TV is on - I walked from room to room inside my house during every commercial break for an hour of TV! This will really rack up the steps too - and you realize just how many commercials are on!
