Hello all! The New Year is upon us very soon! The annual goal to run/walk/move 2,020 miles for the year 2020 is right around the corner.
As luck would have it, 2020 is a Leap Year, which means we have an extra day to complete our goal which is ever so slightly easier than last year's goal. Your daily goal is slightly lower, but the weekly and monthly goal slightly increases.
2,020 miles =
5.51 miles per day
38.84 miles per week
168.33 miles per month
Since Fitbit decommissioned the old web-based groups, I created a group in the Fitbit app instead. I will be renaming the current 2019 group to reflect the New Year of 2020 later next week to minimize the amount of invites I have to send out to everyone. So if you're already a part of the 2019 group in the Fitbit, you don't need to do anything!
If you would like to join the 2020 group in the Fitbit app and you're not already apart of the 2019 group, please let me know here and I'll send you a friend request. Once you accept, I can add you to the group.

Just realized, I have almost 5 million steps in this year.
Just 10K to go....
Never thought I would walk 5 million steps in a year.....

Thank you Heather, I appreciate the add. I have a Newbie question ... How do I access the 2021 group?
Thanks (again),
IrishHeart

@IrishHeart I just sent you the group initiation in the Fitbit app. Check your notification box in the upper right hand corner on your app. You should be able to join there. 🙂

How do you get that chart? Is it something you created or is it in the fitbit app somewhere?

Heather-M (see above) manages the group. I sent a request to her and she added me to the 2021 group. Since I'm a Newbie I have no idea how this actually works but this group is very supportive and I know they'll help us out! Wishing us both good luck in 2021!

@jqwatsondo you mean my chart?
That's from the Fitbit activity page; I tried to post the URL but Fitbit won't allow it.
You select the date range. Mine was set for January 1 through December 29. The one below is for December 2020.
(you can see the URL in the top left of the chart)

I'm planning to stay in the group but I'll have to figure out how to keep track of my steps/miles outside of the automatic tracking. I use an Elliptical for my exercise in the winter. I walked 5 miles on the Elliptical today and Fitbit is showing 5604 steps and 1.53 miles. If anyone out there uses an Elliptical I'm interested in how you track your steps/miles. Otherwise, I'll keep a hardcopy of my Elliptical miles and let Fitbit translate that into whatever formula it uses. I think it will still be good/fun to be part of the group.

I am a newbie and can barely figure out how to retrieve my messages. I think I will just take a picture of my lifetime miles on day one and subtract it from the year end lifetime miles to get my total. That's about as scientific as I get.
Update: Nevermind. The app does everything for me. Now I am confused as to why people keep spreadsheets.

I'm guessing you wear your Fitbit on your wrist, right? Maybe wear it on your ankle while you're using the Elliptical to get a more accurate measure of your steps and distance? You need to move your arm/leg significantly for it to register as a step so maybe your arms weren't moving enough? Put it on your ankle and see if that records the distance any more accurately for you?

You can download a spreadsheet with all your data in it from the settings (cog) part of your profile... that might be what people are referring to when they talk about spreadsheets? I download mine every Monday morning but it's the only spreadsheet I've got, aside from the ones where I record my squats, sit-ups and leg raises numbers every day because the Fitbit doesn't record those for me.

@Judy_S @AmandaGeorge I love my spreadsheets, but I'm an accountant and a total numbers nerd, so I maintain my own spreadsheet outside of Fitbit. I create a lot of spreadsheets for my various hobbies!
Feel free to take a look at it here. I track everything from miles, steps, and floors to my highest step days each year, plus how much longer to my next miles badge.

@IrishHeart
Amazon sells a band for your ankle; there are a few different kinds.
