2,020 Miles in 2020

Hello all!  The New Year is upon us very soon!  The annual goal to run/walk/move 2,020 miles for the year 2020 is right around the corner.

As luck would have it, 2020 is a Leap Year, which means we have an extra day to complete our goal which is ever so slightly easier than last year's goal.  Your daily goal is slightly lower, but the weekly and monthly goal slightly increases.

2,020 miles =

5.51 miles per day

38.84 miles per week

168.33 miles per month

Since Fitbit decommissioned the old web-based groups, I created a group in the Fitbit app instead.  I will be renaming the current 2019 group to reflect the New Year of 2020 later next week to minimize the amount of invites I have to send out to everyone.  So if you're already a part of the 2019 group in the Fitbit, you don't need to do anything!

If you would like to join the 2020 group in the Fitbit app and you're not already apart of the 2019 group, please let me know here and I'll send you a friend request.  Once you accept, I can add you to the group.

Today I am 82 years old today (October 23, 2020).  I just walked 8.2 miles which is a touch under 18,000 steps.  I got my Fitbit for Christmas 4 years ago this year and have averaged over 11,000 steps a day.  I will come close to 2020 miles this year.  Would like to have 4 more good years but I will take it one year at a time.  Would love to have a few "friends" to look over me.  I have time to check on you as to your health goals and life.  I have been through it all.

Good job! I wonder if in 2021 you will add one more mile?

It is nice to see that people are still walking and recording their steps in their eighties. My wife and I are both 68, we both have our pole to pole batches after 4 years. Our watches are close to the end of their life cycle and were considering to stop buying new ones. Since retiring 10 years ago we have averaged about 22,000 steps each and every day. I decided to buy 2 new watches as I believe beside counting steps , there are more medical benefits using a fitbit as we get older, records our sleep cycle, pulse . I was on blood pressure medication for 10 years, no more. I am very lucky to have a wife who enjoys walking as much as I do.

I'd like to join.  I'm just now seeing this.  I'm pretty close and think I can complete it.  And I'd be "all-in" for next years challenge!

Marathon 101:  I will be 58 in January 2021 but sometimes I feel like I won't make it to 60.  I just got my Fitbit and am excited to start making some changes in my life.  It's people like you that inspire me to stop feeling sorry for myself and get out there with the living!  Thank you for your post.

Well, I'm not up there with Marathon 101, but yesterday was my 69th birthday.

It's good to have some sort of a challenge as we age.

I completed the mileage yesterday! Still working on steps but I don’t need much to finish it.

Way to go.  2021 in 2021?  Or 5,000,000 steps in 2021?    I did 4,960,0055 in 2019, and projecting 4,918,000 in 2020 -- trying to make up the 82,000 deficit over the next four weeks.

I thought I had put my finish in here, but I can't locate it.  It seems I have gone past that now.Screen Shot 2020-12-04 at 9.46.30 AM.png

I made it!  I hit 2,036 miles in this in 2020.  I did not realize I did it.  Not bad for A SENIOR!  I encourage all Senior's to keep on moving.

Congratulations @AveryW., and also everyone else who has taken part. Even if you haven't or won't make the goal, it's still the effort and personal achievement that counts.

Got my miles completed!  Probably going to be a bit short on the 5 million steps. (several days I forgot my fitbit at home).  Most important, I lost over 50 pounds and kept my New Years resolution to myself - to get healthy!!!

The group I created in the Fitbit app will continue into 2021 with the new goal of 2,021 miles.  If you're already in the group, you don't have to join again.  It'll be renamed and rolled over into the new year.  🙂

2,021 miles equals...

5.54 miles per day

38.86 miles per week

168.42 miles per month

Best of luck everyone!

Hello Heather,

I just found this community and it's just what I've been looking for. I'm a 66 year old woman who honestly hasn't been walking much but it's now my 2021 priority. It would be great if I could join this group to be around people with a similar goal. I may not make the full 2021 goals but I'll give it my Personal Best! May I join for 2021?

Thank you,

IrishHeart
