Any indoor cycling enthusiasts here??

What's your favorite drill?  What other workouts do you do?

I moved from my own home where I could just wheel my bike out the door, to a second floor walk up where taking my bike out was clumsey and made me feel like I was going to fall down the stairs. I sometimes connect my bike to an indoor trainer. It has been a long time since I invested the time in my own fitness.

It is easiest to just walk, but weather sometimes rules that out. I used to follow aerobic tapes, but the apartment is too small.  So I cycle indoors on rainy days especially. I also try to remember to do some weight training.

I take spin classes when I can work them into my schedule.  I prefer to bike outdoors but when the weather doesn't cooperate I'll spin to get in my cycle miles.  I've never had the mental toughness necessary to ride a trainer, my wife has one that I can use but I do about an hour on it and I'm out of my mind with boredom.

For spin class I like doing hill drills, really clamping down the pressure and busting my backside to turn the pedals over and keep the wheel spinning.

Swim 2.4 miles, Bike 112 miles, Run 26.2 miles and brag for life. If I can do it anyone can!

During the winter, spin bikes not trainers, like to stand more than trainers seem to be able to do, and better resistance.

I'll join classes, but usually need my own longer routine on my own schedule, so I'll bring my own outdoor routine that has songs with specific BPM to mimic the cadence I want for that part of the ride.

So flat songs about 93-97 bpm.

Steep standing hill about 70-75 bpm.

Downhill about 100-105.

Slight sitting incline about 83-87.

Repeat. Allows using all the saddle just like outdoors, and different hand positions, and of course standing/sitting variety.

Each set of songs is about 15 min, so easy to get the 1-2 hrs in.

Gym has allowed me to plug in to main sound system (since I've helped them with stuff) in spin bike room and rock away. Others will join and I briefly explain the idea, some go for it, others are just warming up.

At least it's great to always get a head wind that's beneficial and not have to wear a helmet. Still sweat like a dog, but oh well.
