Had a search but no results, anybody else on here that uses skipping as an excercise?? Surely i can't be the only one, it's one of the best cardio workouts you can do.

Where and how far do you skip? I'm too clumsy for such an activity but it does sound fun!

I generally skip in the gym, but i work offshore so its an easy training tool to take anywhere. i generally do anything from 20 to 40 minutes listening to music anywhere from 120 to 200bpm with a leather weighted skipping rope. Its all about practise, i was clumsy when i started some 16 years ago.

I have jump roped for years off and on. When I was younger (in my 20's and 30's) I did it quite a bit. Now that I am in my 50's I find the impact really hard on my feet. Even with a good floor it's still pretty high impact.

I do double unders alllllll the time.
If I'm at home and get tired of walking around the house (if I haven't met my step goal for the day yet), I will just do regular jump ropes. They add up quick! (Plus, you can go slow enough to not work up a sweat, but still get a good workout in).

I tried to, but the only place to practice jump rope is either outside or at the gym. Sure can't do it indoors. I keep whacking the ceiling or the fan.

I use to a lot and found my Fitbit One actually did okay with jump roping on its own. The calorie burn matched or was similar to my Polar heart rate monitor (sometimes Fitbit was 10-20 higher than Polar, sometimes Polar was higher, sometimes they matched exactly). I haven't tried it with the wrist worn Fitbits though. It counted a step per jump which seems like it should underestimate but since it uses impact and/or up and down motion it seemed to get it close enough.

When I was at school the girls used to do double-dutch skipping but they would never let us boys try.
Still burns me over 40 years later ...

Hi, I am new to the Fitbit Discussion Community although I have had fitbit for three years. Jump roping is my new favorite activity. I've been at it for about two months. I'm not that good but am a whole lot better. But I am tenacious and determined. Your reply to someone hit home. Practice and timing are the key for sure. And I love the fact that you have kept it up for 16+ years.

Hi, I just began jumping rope a few months ago and am loving it. Don't get me wrong; I'm not that good but I'm tenacious and determined. I have come a long way in a few months and my clothes are getting looser. Are you still jumping rope? I'm new to the Fitbit Group and not even sure if you will receive this post.

I do but I don't use a rope. I live with friends and they would never let me live it down if I suddenly appeared in the yard with a rope so I strap my self into some cushiony shoes, turn on some music and jump. I move my wrists as though there is rope and time my bounces to that invisible rope and am soon working up a sweat and unable to maintain conversation.
Also if joint pain is a thing I would suggest a mini trampoline.

Yup I do about 30 minutes a day. Probably the most intense cardio workout you can do for sure.

Only for a couple of months. I attend a jump rope class at our gym once a week and the guy there who is military is an absolute beast at it. I'm slowly working up to 20 minutes none stop while mixing it up and improving my foot work. I love it!!

Skipping ropes..easily one of the best cardio exercises. Specially when I find running kinda boring/less engaging. I use weighted ones by crossrope so it works as a full-body workout as well. But it's not a replacement for full-body workouts.
PS: If anyone wants to try the weighted skipping ropes, I have some crossrope discount code that could help save some money.
