Anyone use fitness to find one's self after death of a spouse?

ANSWERED

I recently lost my spouse through death. I think I am trying to find my new path via fitness and walking in particular. I like walking by the ocean because it seems to refresh and rejuvenate me. It is also very beautiful to contemplate. Anyone use the Fitbit in this manner or have suggestions. Thanks

I lost my wife a year ago, shortly after celebrating our 20th anniversary. Ever since her passing, I redoubled my exercise efforts (weights, jogging and hiking). I am motivated to stay as healthy as possible to be there for our 4 school aged kids. At the end of every strenuous session, I picture her beaming with pride and confidence that her kids are in safe hands.

If we're lucky, our loved ones can motivate us in varied and unexpected ways.

I am sorry for your loss. I did not go through this experience myself, but I do use it when I face hard times. I think it helps a lot with focus while finding your new path. I am not sure if you considered yoga? On youtube there is a channel "yoga with Adriene" and she also has routines for healing.

Thanks for the suggestion and the reply. I am actually planning on reconnecting with Tai Chi. I used to do it in the 1990s but got away from it.

My regular running route takes me to a children's memorial that has a dedication to my daughter.  I try to keep it halfway in between so that it's a nice breather to say "Hi" before I hit it hard on the way home.

Thanks for the reply. I will mull that over and see how I can modify for my particular situation. Thanks again

I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost my Dad, Mom & Sister (and yes dog of 16 years) over the last few years.

Getting out and walking has been a life saver for me.

Thanks for the reply and comment. I just returned from a long walk and observed during it, as I listened to music, that the walking was giving me time to reflect, release sadness and pick myself up emotionally. I decided this morning to disregard speed and distance and to focus on reaching for good feeling thoughts as I walked, listened and observed my environment. It is working.

I think now that my original question and topic was focused on connecting me with people who aren't as interested in the competition and challenges that use of a Fitbit can provide, but rather those who use it for emotional recovery.

Thanks again for your comment and concern.

Thanks for your response first. My sympathies on the lost of your wife and children losing their mother. Your visualization is a good suggestion. I am going to come up with my own and use it.  The walking gives me a chance to be alone and still release my physical frustrations through the exercise. The fitbit itself, along with the app, actually are pleasant distractions. Thanks again.
