Jaunty July is coming to an end and it is time to start a new step challenge. @Jotex suggested calling this one Anything Goes August as in the great Cole Porter song.
Anything Goes? Like July it’s hot in the Northern hemisphere, but this month we also begin to lament the end of summer and rush to cram in vacations and finish summer projects we should have started in June. With all that it is easy to forget to take care of yourself so now is your chance to write down your step and a few other goals for the month. Then you can report in every few days to keep yourself honest. And in the spirit of Anything Goes, maybe add a few taps to your basic step goals.
General monthly instructions are below, but this month I’m adding a picture scavenger hunt:
Take your phone or other camera on your walks look for, snap, and post three pics or more of the following: 1 - some sort of Danger or Warning sign or image like “falling rocks” or “slippery when wet,” the odder the better; 2 - a posted map of something like a downtown walking map, or a park trail map; and 3 a movie or theatre marquee. Just post here as you find them and add a line or internet link about what you are posting. (Thanks @Ennay for the pic)
inspiration :
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format.
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Here are my goals for Anything Goes August.
15,000 steps a day
7 miles per day
30 floors per day
I am modifying this by adding 4 days off so as to not feel guilty when we have a "town" day & can't get the steps.
August 1 steps 20,149, 35 floors, 9.17 miles
8/2 steps 19,295, 48 floors, 9.26 miles This was a town day, sort of. A friend in Springfield had a huge load of wood and invited me plus another friend to come up and help ourselves. So we spent 5 hours cutting and sealing logs for woodturning. Plenty of NEAT exercise on a 92 degree day.
Scavenger hunt first picture, this sign is 100 yards from the creek and I've seen water up to this sign.
@lavabelle I try to get to bed by 9 -9:30 because I always wake up between 5 & 5:30. That allows me to get 7+ hours of sleep a day. (with a few exceptions)

@Baltoscott@GershonSurge Oh Oh I thought I would have to go to the store but I do have a Beer in the fridge I will share with Hubby for Breakfast.
Probably be my first and last time to have one for Breakfast as it really doesn't appeal to me for some reason. But I will do it for Beer day!
Then I will go take a nap I'm sure

The Front Range Trail is supposed to go from the southern border of Colorado to the northern board. It was planned years ago but never got too much interest. A little piece of it is completed through Pueblo.
The American Discovery Trail and the TransAmerica bicycle trail go through Pueblo, and I frequently meet people hiking or bicycling across the United States. Once, I met a guy riding around the world. He made it to the southern tip of Argentina and then stopped because of political considerations somewhere.
That picnic looked like a scene from a movie.
Many people add a bit of tomato juice to breakfast beer.

Day Four of August.
1. Steps=5000 - 4/31; 6170 so far today
2. 2 km walks - 2/8; 2 km walk today.
It was raining again, just a light drizzle. This time I took a bush walk. It was a treat. I saw a lyre bird on the path ahead - magical. It didn't notice me at first. There was also a wallaby on the track on the way back. We looked at each other for about 30 seconds before it decided discretion was the better part of valour and hopped off into the bush.
3. 3 scavenger pictures: 1/3; another map plus some pics from today's walk. Not too many I hope.
You might just make out the wallaby on the track today.
I even saw a lyre bird on today's walk - lovely. This is where it was scratching.
The walking track was called "Tree Fern" and meandered along a creek for part of the way.

@GershonSurge - our friends’ place would be an ideal location for a film. Even though we all live here, Swiss are delighted and get up (outside if necessary) to notice the mountains on a crystal clear day. 😊

Hey guys!
Thank you for welcoming me and the other people that are new in these types of threads.
Three whole days have passed and I am keeping up with my goals. I have a quite regular exercise regime since a few months back and it should not be a problem for me to achieve the run and strength training goals. What might be a bit of a challenge is getting a 500 kcal deficit and 10 000 steps every single day of a month. So far so good though. 🙂
I am sharing a map of the small nature reserve right next to where I live in the north of Stockholm, Sweden. I love running and walking there!

Anything Goes — August 3 / 4
15 x 10,000 steps —0/15 days
10 x 15,000 steps — 2/10 days
2 x 20,000 steps — 1/2 days
15 x Strength training — 2/15 days
3 (or more) Scavenger Hunt Photos (as directed) — 1/3
Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. I had to get a lot of stuff done around here, and even went to a mall to help get my steps (it’s air conditioned there), but only got about 8,000 steps. My strength training was the heavy lifting I had to do in our backyard (moving heavy rocks, lifting buckets full of rocks) doing a bit of landscaping (a work in progress).
But, ta-ta-da-da (tooting horn sound) I have completed my first 20,000 step day!!! Whoop! I guess I will feel sore tomorrow (?) but really motivated because I know I can do it!

Congratulations on your first 20,000 step day!
You probably know marijuana is legal here. It's about $69 an ounce including taxes and getting less expensive. Mostly older people with aches and pains buy it. Some say it is useful in treating cancer.
Doctors mostly don't prescribe pain medication, but that's OK, heroin is plentiful. It costs about $10 a day on the streets and dealers are plentiful.
Don't worry about your car getting older. Someone will steal it if you wait a bit.
The parking lots aren't safe for older women.
Most everyone in our neighborhood is armed even though we are Democrats. They leave us alone as there is an informal rotation of people walking the neighborhood almost 24 hours a day.
The real estate agents have a grip on the city government and they are raising taxes to force people with less money out of their homes.
Many doctors no longer accept Medicare patients. They are highly motivated by medicine for profit.
Vegetables no longer grow here. It gets too hot and everything goes right to seed.
We have a vibrant homeless population. They are starting to form tight-knit communities to buy and share food. Many of them are eating a whole food plant-based diet. There aren't many panhandlers who approach people anymore. The corners are dominated by the near homeless and the gangs.
Water is getting so expensive many people have stopped watering their lawns. If you do water your lawn, someone will steal the sprinkler to pawn it.
The police are too busy to stop speeders. However, the fear of getting shot keeps most drivers relatively polite.
We get lots of smoke from the California fires. We seldom see the mountains clearly anymore.
The interstate gets closed about once a day for traffic accidents. If you don't exit quickly, you may be stuck for hours. It's best to stay off it, but you better know where not to drive.
Bank robberies are frequent, and now they have security guards in all the banks.
Be careful if you stay in a motel. Many of them are centers for drug trafficking and prostitution. The ones that look the nicest are often the worst.
The police are on a hair trigger and have shot many people this year. I think the count is around fifteen this year. It has gotten so common, it hardly makes the news. They don't appear to be profiling as they shoot people from all ethnic groups. One of my sons was standing in his front yard and almost got arrested because someone parked a stolen car nearby.
Hope this helps. 🙂

Day Five of August.
1. Steps=5000 - 5/31
2. 2 km walks - 3/8; 3 km walk today.
Starting to like this walking thing. Today it was beautifully sunny and I just walked around the pondage again, which is 3 km according to the signs.
3. 3 scavenger pictures: 2/3; Two warning signs from today's walk. (The local pondage is part of a hydro scheme.)
For anyone who's mad enough to consider it, a warning.
There have been drownings. Once the current drags you under you can't tell which way is up.
Some sweet little blue-billed ducks.

I've had a busy and fun first 4 days of August. I decided to challenge myself yesterday and do this 10 km hike twice...I felt really good after the first 10 km loop that I went on ahead and completed the second loop in the reverse. It's a beautiful loop around Buntzen Lake near my home. https://www.vancouvertrails.com/trails/buntzen-lake/ It's rated as a moderate hike in my guidebook, here it says easy...but there are a few hills that will take everything out of you!!! I have been walking about 20 km a day for a few months now...but this hike...ouch...today I am limping 🙂 I think I might feel this for a couple of days 🙂
I looked up instapot because of all the talk on this tread...I think my husband would love this! He does most of the cooking, thank God! I might starve if he didn't...
