April Showers (2020) — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

This fourth month of 2020 will bring more mud in my area — and more COVID-19.  Like there isn’t enough already!  But try not let it get in the way of your goals. Temperatures should be mild in both Northern and Southern hemispheres.  Get outside (if authorities allow and you are not sick) and experience life!  If you need to be inside it may be time to add some bodyweight exercises to your routine, some yoga, or something else new.

Me, I’m going to try and learn to ride a unicycle this month!. And, of course, I will be washing my hands 10-15x/day, and maintaining 6 ft distance, and otherwise trying to “flatten the curve" in my community.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

The theme of the photo scavenger hunt this month is changing seasons and the effect of COVID-19. It is the beginning of Spring in the North and Fall in the South.  So blossoms for some of us, falling leaves for others.  And since the pandemic is still raging, pics of how life and people around you are adapting to that new fact of life — including, if you are learning something new in your fitness life, your progression in that.  Hopefully I'll be able to share a pic of me actually on my new unicycle sometime this month!

Once the rain stops I'm going to get on this thing!Once the rain stops I'm going to get on this thing!

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Today (April 25th) is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand.

With social distancing, the annual marches in commemoration have, obviously, been curtailed. But across the nation, a grassroots campaign has sprung up and we have been asked to show our respect by standing at the head of our driveways, or balconies etc at six am to listen to the Last Post and reflect during the minute of silence that follows. My tribute I placed on the wall at the street entrance of my small apartment block.

Lest we forget.

I followed the example from @Baltoscott and will post a picture of my mask.  At it happens I only had Marvel Avenger's cloth, so that's the mask that I made:

Next, after over a month of working from home, I finally got my workstation configured with a desk treadmill:

Yes, this is our 'new normal'.

Well done @PureEvil !!! Love the Avengers Mask! And your treadmill!! So, your desk is set for standing height, right? I may need to rethink my home office.

Best Answer

@Jotex,

Yup.  It's an ApexDesk Elite 60"...  I think standing it's set to 43", but I also got wheels for it, so it's probably closer to 45" for standing (+treadmill).

Once I'm in 'sit' mode, I wheel it in front of my recliner and watch TV (well, mostly TED talks right now) while I work.

Lovely flowers @Baltoscott! Will start thinking about goals.

In Switzerland today the Govt initiated the first step in relaxing the lockdown, so certain kinds of businesses are re-open for business. Yes, I’ve made my appt for a hair trim and manicure this week. I heard one of the garden centers was so popular, within 30 minutes they had to close the parking lot because it was FULL. Glad I didn’t rush out!
