It’s June! — the last month of the first half of 2024! Think about that. Stuff got in the way of some of my exercise goals last month so I think it is time to go back to basics and remember the early start. So the goal this month is to get in some exercise in the morning, or at least before noon. Before Noon June 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges has been to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week.
Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures
The theme of the photo scavenger hunt are morning pics. What’s out in the world early in the morning? Last month it would be the school bus pickup across the street from me, but I’ll need to find something else now that school is out for the summer. Below is the balloon festival in Albuquerque NM from October 10, 2010. That was a great morning!
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Before NoonJune Day 27
In bed by 11 every day | 27/30 |
5 flights of stairs each day | 27/30 |
1000 revs on the exercise pedaller daily | 27/30 |
3 Scavenger Hunt pictures | 3/3 |
Summer has at last arrived in England, with some lovely weather in the last week. I only wish I could be out in it more! I've made a little determined progress in that I take Walter out first thing in the morning. It's a very short walk indeed, so I'k including a photograph of the turn-round point, which is a very useful metal seat. I can sit on their and throw Mr Green, which you can see in the picture. Walter only needs short walks at the moment. He suddenly developed a very bad limp, with a painful from paw, so much that he had to manage on three legs. Somehow, he worked out how to do it, and even how to do a wee - which was to pretend he was a lady dog! After four days, he was just able to stand on the very front of the painful paw, so could operate in a male dog manner again. Sadly, when we took him the vet about his paw, they gave him a through examination, and he has a big cancerous growth in his abdomen. We've decided not to have him operated on, as the procedure is very risky, and as long as he's happy being a dog, then that's fine. He'll let us know when it gets too much for him.
The picture was taken against the sun, but you can just make out a car. Our house is about 200 yards beyond that, so that's as far as I can get. It still hurts a lot walking then, but it's possible. Later on in the day, I wouldn't start.
I'm now waiting to see a neurosurgeon, and will possible have another MRI scan, but taken while upright, as the pain eases off when I lie down, which of course is the normal position for an MRI. I reckon that the upright version ought to give more clues.
Before I take him out, I'm on the Cubii, which you can see in the next picture. I sit on the chair, and look at the old horse. I tried a couple of sessions of acupuncture to tackle the nerve pain. It didn't work, but I got good advice from the practitioner to do what I could to keep my muscles in shape. Luckily, using the Cubii doesn't bring on the pain, so I do this as soon as I'm dressed - Walter is very patient meanwhile - and I'm slowly building up the number of revs I do, and the level of resistance, for which there's a 1-8 scale. For my arms, I sit in another chair and lift a couple of big heavy French dictionaries 100 times.

My plate did not thin out quite yet and we have several guests coming for the 4th on Thursday and our band is playing a fun party that day as well, so it has been a lot of practice as my daughter will be singing with me rather than my sister... at least it is something that I love! 🙂 But I need to bet back in the groove and posting more often.
@Vidd I am so sorry to hear about Walter. We were in the same boat last year at this time. Prayers for your health and spending a lot of time with your sweet doggy.
@Jotex I hope you are feeling better and your health care providers are able to help. I had my gallbladder removed at age 33 and it helped so much.
@Baltoscott So happy to hear that you are back at it! I hope you can tackle the sleep issue very soon. Sleep is the one healthy thing I lack. I try, but something always comes up and I don't get to sleep until after midnight.
Below in the pics are the morning shots of the eaglet, "Miracle" named by our neighbors, who has left the nest, but still relies on mom and dad some days.
Day 30:
10k steps per day (Sundays) - 4/4days
Over 13k steps per day - 13/13 days
Over 16k steps per day - 9/8 days
Over 20k steps per day - 4/5
Weights - 15/14 days
Yoga/pilates/stretch - 16/15 days
90 oz Water every day - 28/30 days
5 lb weight loss - 2/5 pounds lost
Mindfulness/Meditation at least 3 minutes- 2/7 (Yikes!)
Asleep by Midnight at least 15 days- 5/15 days
June pictures. 3/3
Miracle searching.
Mom and Dad, Celebrating?? lol.. Their names are Angel and Gabriel. Our neighbors are so awesome. They allow us to stop by and watch and film this amazing story.
Miracle landed on our next door neighbors roof last week.

Almost reached all my goals. Thanks for the invite @Baltoscott. Will set my goals soon.
Thanks for your kind words @jantonini. My doctor doesn’t think I had gallstones, but I haven’t seen the lab report. In any case, I am feeling better, most of the time. At least I have enough energy to get things done around here. I, too, am having difficulty sleeping enough these days. But I don’t yet want to start taking sleeping meds. I know someone who can’t sleep without them, and sometimes they don’t work. I think I need to look at my evening routine and make changes there to see if that helps (no ‘screens’ after, say 8 or 9 pm).
