Unless we do something about it, we all lose flexibility over time. I have noticed this in a big way when I have stretched after exercise. What have folks done to increase flexibility? Not sure that I am a yoga person, but I am open to all ideas.
Best AnswerYeah... stretching *is* the best way to get and stay flexible.
I know you said you're not much into the idea of yoga, but even so I'd recommend my personal favorite. Its old, but good.
If you can find it, I'm partial to The FIRM: power yoga (2005). Takes about 40 minutes, the moves are realistic for a beginner (but still take practice!), and I like the music and instructors. For people who are yoga enthusiasts its probably a bit oversimplified for them, but I find it fits my needs and schedule nicely.
Added bonus: It is low enough intensity that I usually run it about an hour before bedtime... really relaxes me after all the other heavy physical activity in my day and I always sleep very well afterwards. 🙂
Cheers and good luck! 🙂
Whatever stretching you do, what I've always heard is that you need to hold your stretch for a minute or two to really increase flexibility. You never want to force the stretch, just gently hold it and let your muscles relax.
Best AnswerYes, stetching daily. I am also a big believer in physical therapy when needed--and accupuncture.
